Default DCCD Locking up? Brakes Locking?

My '05 STI is doing a really crazy thing. I only have 3200 mi. I was playing around with the DCCD and had it 3 clicks back from lock and went 9 miles of "normal driving." When I went to pull in to park it it it really started to creeeeaaaaap when I was slowly pulling in, (like the front brakes were grabbing) in 1st gear. As I turned the wheel to the left it was grabbing like crazy. I put the car into neutral and thats when all hell broke loose. Just then it sounded like either the brakes let loose all of a sudden, or the tranny just ripped itself out of my car. Really loud noise? I got out to check the front end and underneath. All seemed fine.
I turned off the DCCD and drove around a bit to see if all was ok. It seemed fine, but I wanted to know what was up. So I tried to recreate the sound again so that I could bring it into the dealership and really explain what was going on. I set it to DCCD again (4 clicks from lock) and putted around the parking lot....turned left and pulled into a spot. Sure enough, the brakes....or the DCCD was grabbing like heck and I put it into neutral. It made the same loud noise as if something was letting loose. What's the deal? Any ideas?

Um, read your owners manual?

This is normal.

Thanks. in the meantime I just sorted though 11 billion posts on this exact subject. But wow, is this a confusing subject or what? Every other person has a "theory" on how and when to use the DCCD. I just don't want to hurt or jack up my tranny by misusing the DCCD. It did scare the shard out of me when it happened though.

Do not have your centre diff anywhere near lock in parking lots or any other tight area of road. There is no reason for it and as you have witnessed is NOT good for the thing!

Default Clarification Please?

So help me understand. When the dial is on lock, up all the way. the car is at 50/50 split. As i move the dial down, the ratio becomes more favorable towards the rear wheels to the max point of 35f/65r to 0; or as non-limiting as possible. As cornering occurs, the amount of "limitation" or "toggle" selection that is selected activates the brakes. or is this done via magnets? I was under the impression that the toggle imputs then in turn, "instruct" the diff to only put out the ratio of power to each wheel as selected by the driver on the DCCD switch. Not actuall braking. Wouldn't it seem more logical from a design stantpoint to have all the thinking and power output alredy done by the diff? Whats really going on here?
Brakes slowing down each wheel, or the diff doing it?
Thanks-
