I've heard alot of you guys talk about how much you love your motors. Lets talk about the negative side. What problems you have had, if any? How much power? What turbo? What EM? Do you baby it or beat the crap out of it? Anything broke? If you dont want to tell your HP or turbo just say whether the turbo is stock or not.

Thanks, Frankie

I've got one in my RS. So far so good.

Factory turbo and ecu for now. I run 94 octane with booster. One day I will have it tuned. That seems to be the biggest drawback, the engine tuning. Limited choices out there.

Only problem is I need a new clutch and bigger brakes. Its not the motors fault the act street clutch cant handle the power.

Lots of fun
Chris

Engine/car: '03 JDM STi engine, '99 Legacy GT rally car.
Mods: 34mm restrictor mated to stock VF37, 3" TBE.
Tuning: Never been tuned, run 98 octane (104/92 mix), stock JDM ECU, no idea how much power we're making.
As this is a rally car, you could say we beat it more than baby it.

Comments: We've run 4 rallies with this setup and had few problems. Well, the broken axle and smoked clutch were my fault.

the is a little off topic but the 34mm restrictor is probably mandated by the rally class he is in to limit or regulate power.

Actually it's simply the motor designation. It does not signify what version the motor is. Ver6's are ej207's, as well as ver7's and ver8's. Regular wrx motors are referred to as ej205's.

I've had two ej207's and ran one essentially stock for a year. No problems to speak of and i was quite happy with the motor. I love ej207's Good luck.

This is my setup. Should I go with a built motor or will a EJ207 be reliable?

I beat the living hell out of my V7 every day. And have been for the last 30,000 miles. It is leaking a very little bit of oil, a drop or two when it sits. I can't find the leak.

The only downfall with the JDM motors is they are designed for good gas. The Ver8 with cali gas and hyper cast pistons is not soo good. With a bad tune and poor gas it is a recipe for disaster as i found out the hard way.

The only time you run into a problem like that is with the stock ECU. I'll be running a AEM EMS so I dont have to worry bout that.
