Default First Subaru ordered, '12 WRX hatch to be my daily driver

Greetings everyone!

I've been combing the forums for weeks now doing research into Subarus as I shopped for a daily driver. My girlfriend and I have just started scuba diving and it's been a real challenge to cram all the gear into my current car. I'm also starting to grow weary of driving a track car on the street and I have been anxious to pick up a car that's not going to scrape on every parking lot and rattle my fillings loose on these bumpy central Houston roads.

I went and test drove an '11 last weekend and it was a blast (not that I'm telling you guys anything you don't already know). I was torn between the WRX and stepping up for an STI, but after driving the WRX I'm confident it'll be more than enough fun for me.

Monday I put a deposit down on a WR blue '12 WRX Limited 5 door that is due to arrive at my dealer on 7 November. No navigation (which I don't think I'll miss) but it will have the SPT exhaust and the short throw shifter.

This will be my first Subaru, my first AWD car. Heck, I've only had one other car in the past decade that's even had a back seat and that one wasn't really functional. I'm probably not going to know what to do with all this practicality.

Quite excited, and I'm counting the days. Thanks to everyone here for the great threads and wealth of information -- it sure makes the purchase decisionmaking go a lot smoother.

4-Nov-2011: Picked it up this morning!

Oh, I totally forgot to ask***8230; The important questions:

How much should I pay? What interest rate should I expect to get? How much will insurance cost? What's the easiest way to black out my taillights? Can I get to 410hp with just a cold air intake and cutback? Which color is the best?

And since I didn't buy an STi, what's the cheapest way to turn my WRX into an STi with bolt-on parts? That's easy right?

(just kidding)

Congrats on your WRX order. Unfortunately, most of your questions are unanswerable because they depend on too many factors. Please read the stickies and search the forums before you post.

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=718033

One thing I can say...

I'm sure you can't achieve anywhere near 410 hp with just an intake and catback. Even 300 HP is a stretch for just those two mods. If you do install both, get a proper tune or risk messing up your new car. Also if you do eventually want 410 hp you should have gotten an STI. The WRX 5sp transmission and clutch cannot handle that kind of power.

Congrats on the purchase! I'm looking into a trading my 2011 Evo X for a 11/12 WRX hatch right now to get more utility/practicality out of my DD.

And to the guys who already replied, I think OP was just asking the "mandatory" noob questions as a joke. He doesn't really want to make his WRX an STi or get 410whp out of an intake and cbe.

I just got an email from my dealer, my car's arrived and I can pick it up whenever I want. It'll probably be Monday before I can make it out to get it, though.

Such a Beauty! Just wondering, do all of them now have chrome headlight housing as opposed to the black ones, of the 11s?

I'm so jealous of both cars.

But seriously, is it me or are those different headlights than what the 2011s had?

That is one of the few mods that might interest me. The other would be a big rear sway (dependent on the on-track handling).

<-- MacNugget's girlfriend, checking in. My track vehicle is an MX-5 and my daily an SV650.

2011's had black housings and the 2012 models will have the chrome housings.

and by the way congratulations !
