Default looking for an apartment in richmond- any advice?

hey guys, i will be taking a new job and moving to richmond. i was wonderring if you guys could give me any advice on where to live. i was looking for a 2 bedroom for $875 and under range. i am currently working in charlottesville so i am fairly familiar with the area and have been down the past couple weekends looking at places. i will be on the road a lot and my girlfriend will be on her own a lot. we've both lived in some not so nice places in the past, but if possible, i'd like to go with a nice/quiet neighborhood. i realize that no complex will be 100% safe but i would really appreciate any input- maybe certain areas/complexes to stay away from? we've pretty much been looking in the west end but i will look into any suggestions you guys give me. here's what i have so far: 1) dominion creek wood (off hungary springs which is off parham)- it looked pretty nice and they are running a special $699 for a two bed, two bath, i think price is the upside for this one, 2) legacy of mayland (aka dominion english hills), off mayland we both really like the renovations and it looks pretty nice but i was wondering why the price seemed so reasonable- $825 for a two bed, 1.5 bath, 3) culpeper farm, off mayland as well, lots of storage, two bed/bath, and a racquetball court, somewhere in the high 7's i think, 4) lake wilde (or maybe wilde lake), off lauderdale (near short pump mall), 2 bed/bath for around $850, the interior looked standard but it felt really relaxing with the woods and the small pond nearby, i think i even saw some ducks walking around, if any of you guys could give me your opinion, i would really appreciate it, thanks in advance!

I would say avoid Honeytree. It used to be one of the best places to live, with lots of U of R students. Then it's like it went low income subsidized or something. Theft and vandalism started to take place.

if you can afford to buy, then do it. Renting is a bad idea in Richmond...you would make so much from owning even a small apartment, purely cuz you can rent it out to college kids!

i'm moving down there next year, pending my acceptance into the VCU business program

How so?? My last house was 3 bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms and I paid 237.50 for my half. Never had any breakins or anything bad happen to any of my stuff. Have you rented here before or are you just making assumptions??

renting anywhere sucks because you lose money

if you buy you can keep making money off of it after you're done w/ the house/apt

And that makes renting in Richmond worse than renting anywhere else??? I didn't think so.

dlin...If you find a complex you really like call Henrico PD and ask about the crime rate in the area. If for some reason you end up in Chesterfield I can find out that info for you in about 5 minutes.

renting in richmond sucks IMO because it's an urban area...as well as a multiple college city.

with all the renovations going on at VCU i assume that property value is rocketing upwards
