Question bad tint after 3 years

Is there "perfect" tint film(s), one that does not change color or gain bubbles after 3+ years?

I've experienced (purpling but no bubbles) and seen it in many southern Cal cars. Some I knew were "professional" tint jobs.

thanks,
an.

You will find that cheaper tints, ones that rely on a dye, will fade faster and purple sooner. The better types of tint out there rely on a metal flake material in the tint itself. This reduces the amount of dye or removes it altogether, thereby reducing/removing the cause of the purpling.

As for bubbling, there are a couple things that will help prevent it. One is a good installation using one piece of tint rather than multiple pieces. The second is to ensure that an edge is used when applying it to minimize the amount of air that is trapped under the tint. Other than that, I dunno. I haven't had any bubbling. Mind you, I have only had tint for about 1.5 years on my car.

If I experience any bubbling or fading, I will just pay the $150 and get it redone.

Most good quality tint shops I have been in contact with offer lifetime warranties on their tints. That was fairly important to me when I got mine done (and both of my parents cars), as I HATE seeing bubbled/purpled tint on peoples' cars and definitely don't want it on mine. However, the shop I had it done at was very confident that I would never need to exercise that warranty because their tint was all-metalic (like Keenan was talking about) and would never change color. It apparently bonds to the glass too, and won't bubble if applied w/ out any air in it.

Most tint jobs are life time garuntee by the installer.

some have limits (non matalic film only has 1-3 yrs warranty against turning purple)

I've heard that many window cleaners cause the tint to purple. Check for "tint safe" cleaner. I think it doesn't have amonia?

I have been told and read that you are not supposed to use ammonia based window cleaners. As a result, I never do. I have never figured out why but why chance it. No point risking it.

Ammonia based window cleaner will cause the tint to bubble. I used Windex on one of my tinted windows one time and within a few weeks, I started to get a funny rippling in the tint.

It also normally voids the lifetime warranty of the tint too.
