Default 2011 OBP WRX System (Clean and Hidden Oem Intergration)

Hey guys. My name is Vic. This is my first real thread on this website. So Im not going to be that good at it. So Im going to try to do my best.

I bought this car in Dec. of 2010. I been dying to put A little sound in my car. I have been really busy since then, working on other peoples cars. So this passed month its died down a tad. I been able to make some room for myself. I just wanted something nice and simple. Nothing to showy or look at me.lol I do have a one year old now so I do have to pack stuff in my trunk. Like strollers and bags. While that stuff is in there I might have to stop and pick up groceries, or other stuff. So since im a family man now. I had to have a open mind for other things and not myself.lol O yea I do golf alot too. I have to have my bag or other friends bags when we use my car.

I couldnt go to crazy with product but still fairly nice. I decided i was going to keep my factory clarion speakers in, to see how good they would do with a amp. I deaden the doors with Dynamat I had forever. Im using the factory headunit still too. SO THATS two things that everyone talks so badly about. I took my car car to subaru Needless to say they were amazed how awsome it sounded with those pieces. They are now sending people to me for easy upgrades. Again this is not a Spl machine or SQ beauty its just nice to hear good, clean and Loud music in a subie. Here is what I did.

Headunit: Stock Headunit
Fronts: Stock (maybe upgrade to polk db in the future)
Rears:Stock
4 channel amp: Polk PA.200.4 35x4 rms
Monoblock amp:Polk PA.600.1 600x1 rms at 1 ohm, 400x1 rms at 2 ohm
Processor: Audiocontrol Lc6i convertor with a sub gain knob
Subwoofers: 2 Memphis 10" C3's (awsome)
Capacitor: 5 farad Tsunami
Wiring: 4 guage Tsunami wire, 3 sets of 1.5 feet Tsunami Rcas, 9 wire conductor wire for signal Tsunami, 1 postive fused battery post terminal, and 1 negative battery post terminal.
I also Flex loomed everything. I love that stuff.
Sound Dampning: Dynamat on front doors. Second Skin damplifer in the trunk and deck lid. I love second skin.

My Conclusion
I really do like how this car sounds with this setup. It can get down with some rap music. It is very clear when I listen to Easy Listening and R&B.
Im a big DMB fan and yes I love his Live albums. When I turn it up with the windows up It sounds like im at his concerts. The subs are very punchy and accurate when it comes to drums. It sounds like there in my trunk lol. I do alot of demos with everything all day. What ever they want to here they are impressed. Then when I go to show them the trunk the faces they make is funny. I lift up the Factoy cover And there like OMG!
I went to a car show with a big tent, 4 chairs, a big cooler and some food. All in my trunk with the seats down of course and still bumping.lol
The people made me enter it in the car audio secton. I won first place for sound and looks. I was pretty surprised when I did since there was a whole lot of other stuff. So I also pack a big ass trophy for the ride back.lol Im in clarksville Tn if anbody is close come on by so I can Show you. You wont be diappointed.

Tell me what youll think.

Looks awesome; Where do you work? The shop reminds me of a Best Buy, especially with the kicker banner.

I like the idea of how the subs are mounted, but I'm not sure giving up your spare tire was the smartest idea.

How is the sound with the factory deck? That's pretty much the first thing I change in all my cars.

glad to see someone rocking the stock deck. i wish i was as patient to go through all the work of making the stock deck sound great.. but changing out the stock deck made a world of difference in my 2011, still need to get a sub though.

looks awesome and yeah the install bay looks like best buy or circuit city (r.i.p.)

Looks good. How's that audiocontrol unit? Did it induce any noise in your system?

Yea its an old circuit city building. I finaced my car through state farm so I get free roadside assistance the whole time I have my car. And the Whole thing about awd with the spare has me not wanting to chance it. Also I didnt want to add a whole bunch of more weight. I figured with taking the tire and all the other stuff out, also taking the factory exhaust mufflers off. With the light fiberglass box, subs, amps, and the lc6i.It should be close to not gaining anything. Yes the factory speakers sound awsome with a amp.I was going to replace them but I was like Ill see what they sound like with 35 watts going to them. Needless to say I have yet changed them out. There no focal or hertz quality but it sounds great. A good way wot save money. I would safe to say one of those little amps from alpine would be a good upgrade to get some sound.

I am very impressed with that piece. 5 stars for that piece. Its simple to use and very little. If any one wanted to keep a factoy radio and you have a crossover on your amp that is the way to go.Instead of buying a 600 processor.

I should have known that from the maroon trim around the peg board... Spent a good part of my life over the past 15 years in one of those bays and for some reason the first thing I thought of was best buy also. x2 on RIP CC.

Nice looking car and install BTW. Well executed.

I like the idea of dropping everything in the spare tire well. I have actually thought about doing that to mine when I make the decision to go fully active.

I personally do not like the sound of the Polk's (amps and speakers)...but that is personal opinion. I also wouldn't run a cap at all. They have a history of destroying alternators...not helping them. I would upgrade the battery and call it a day.

Keeping the stock head unit looks clean but I hated the stock unit. It was the first thing to go in mine before the rest of the system went in. When you get the JDM nav surround...a unit like the Pioneer with red lighting actually looks stock.

Great intall on the trunk though. Very clean and finished.

I did a post on the 2011 speakers (you can find it here) but the bottom line is that anyone looking for premium grade audio is going to have to replace them. They are better than they were in the past, but the construction still makes the distort at even moderate levels. The separation between instruments in music is also not there even when amplified (tested it as well).

I now it has been asked, but I didn't really see a reply - how is the noise, if any, in the system?

I read through Crutchfield and saw pretty good reviews on the unit:
http://www.crutchfield.com/s_161LC6I...DynamicContent

I have everything for a system I need except a deck. I actually like the stock deck (enough) and am considering this even more so now.

What would you say you don't like about it so far?

So you have no EQ? And you're just high passing the stock speakers and low passing the subs? I believe this sounds a lot better than stock but I don't believe you're getting any kind of imaging or any kind of respectable EQ curve. What do you have the Bass/Mid/Treble settings at on the stock deck?

I am using the stock deck with PG RSD components, PAC SOEM-T LOC and a Kicker KX250.2. Personally, I think it sounds like crap. Much better than stock but still terrible in comparison to a real source and DSP. I also have a pretty high noise floor which I'm yet to eliminate.

Im sorry. I didn't relize you wanted an answer. I have the bass at 2, mid at 5, and treble at 5. Like I said I wasnt shooting for something to stage like I have a orchestra on my dash.lol But it actually triples the sound over factory. Im really satisified with it and not putting more money into then I really have too.
My main goal was trying out the Lc6i with this setup. To show to customers with the right parts to have a decent sound. You dont have to spend a whole lot of money on a bunch of different parts. I like to do things in steps with customers. Like I said next thing I was going to add speakers but in reality I dont have to.
This is a good demo car to show someone without scaring them away or Pissing of my wife.lol

I understand what you were trying to do and you accomplished it quite nicely. Actually making me rethink the idea of being set on keeping the spare tire.

I'm just questioning how you had the best sounding audio system at a car show with that setup. I'm sure anyone with an EQ or an originally flat source would have sounded much better. I'm sure it sounds good but don't try to tell us you're winning SQ competitions because I know what that signal sounds like when amplified and it aint good.
