Blitz SUS Induction Kit, Al? Anyone?
Did you ever find out if the Injen made any difference over the Blitz SUS? Finally, does anyone have the Blitz SUS in stock? I'd like to pick one up.

I ordered my Blitz SUS from Titan Motorsports and the contact person is Bottle ([email protected]).
According to the ETA told to me, my unit is supposed to arrive this week. Not sure what their stock situation is like. David Link to Titan Motorsports web site: http://www.ecarshops.com/Merchant/me...&Store_Code=TM |

... or Sard EX+ drag filter!
All this while on iClub i have ignored posts about induction kits and i recall rather vaguely there was once a 'war' between the Blitz SUS and Injen CAI kits .. curious, I did a search to see what the Blitz SUS kit is about and quite disappointed to see it's nothing more than a standard induction kit comprising of a pod filter, fitting adapter and mounting braket. The bit that concerns me as should the rest of the Subaru community is the poor filtration of the Blitz filter element as tested ...
http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/fil...t/1/index.html http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/fil...t/2/index.html ... there are variety of air induction kits offered at my vendor's shop but few for the New Age GDA, except Apexi Power Intake and Sard EX+ Top Intake. I've decided to talk a little bit about the uniqueness of the Sard item, this being the second generation design and has a potential for being a better choice than the Blitz. Firstly, it comes complete with an adapter pipe on which the stock MAF sensor is migrated from the factory pipe. |

Secondly, the SARD EX+ features a removable rubber pad that you can remove at the drag strip for an unfiltered and less back pressure suction, like the big drag boys! In addition to this, SARD provides an option Racing Funnel that is said to optimise air flow through the 'top intake'.
Thirdly, the entire SARD filter housing is wire enforced so there's little chance of it collapsing or subject to easy damage unlike other Japanese filters I have personally encountered. |

Rob, if you can't find one through any of the vendors, I may be willing to sell you mine as I might be switching to the AEM or perhaps SARD when I do the TEC testing. I have PM'd you the details if you are interested.

I think I am a little confused. The Blitz SUS doesn't come with a new MAF housing? That's kinda goofy for a bracket and filter Also, does anyone have concerns about the SUS filtration level?
Jan, are you selling this Sard goodie also? I'll try and catch ya online. Mike, what are your thoughts on the SUS? Why switch to the Injen or AEM? I just want something to mount to my new samco inlet hose |

Here is the picture of what the Blitz looks like Rob:
As you can see in Jan's picture, it is pretty much the same setup as the SARD: an adapter fitting, the filter, and a mounting bracket. I have been pleased with the gains of the Blitz unit. Good gains across the power band, but noticeable gains in the first 2 gears where I felt like the car lacked some. I'm sure the filtering properties aren't as good as some of the other units, but here in the Bay Area, I'm not too concerned about my engine ingesting anything too harmful especially since the unit is in the engine bay and not the fenderwell. The AEM and the Injen I think are both CARB approved and visually, the intake is noticeable if I was pulled over, so I might fare better with the law. Perhaps that won't matter though once the TEC is installed!! Mike S. |

What is the samco inlet hose? Is this something to go with the Blitz? Thanks, David |

As requested, here is the pic of the Samco piece:
It replaces the restrictive black plastic piece connected to your compressor wheel opening of the turbo. You then connect the intake to this piece. Mike S. |

Then i recall (and you guys might have read in my earlier posts) having encountered engine stutters/hesitation after hitting a deep flood on my very wet afternoon. The engine compartment around the filter was completely soaked, I'm certain the filter element was equally soaked and ingested a healthy gulp of moist filtered air. Not too long after this incident, the filter element just mysteriously collapsed as shown. I attribute this weakness to poor design and compromised structural integrity. Looking at the pic, you can see only one side of the filter assembly has a pillar support, the rest of it none. Had the Apexi Power Intake design take the approach of Sard for example, it would not look so sorry under such wet circumstances! I know this isnt a freak one-off occurence as there are two more Power Intakes that suffered the same fate. It's almost impossible to avoid water ingestion over here. Did you order this from the UK (where Forge is based) or is there a US-based supplier you could recommend. Also, I went to the web site and saw numerous Samco pieces for Subaru but none specifically said 2002 WRX. Which part number did you order? Thanks, David EDIT: I have found some US suppliers of the Samco pieces. I would still be interested in knowing which part number you ordered - thanks. The pipes are available in Blue or Red according to one dealer (www.rallyperformance.com). Last edited by Bradus; 11-11-2001 at 07:19 AM. |

That samco piece.....
Does it replace the "ribbed", flexible section of the intake in this pic?
Or does it replace the hard plastic section after that? That ribbed section really bothers me, there should be a substantial pressure drop (restriction) through something like that. Is there a easy mod to replace that with something smooth? Kevin |

Is there some particular reason why noone makes an intake that goes from the filter to the turbo?! I mean, dear me, three parts from three seperate vendors just to get an INTAKE? The Injen and a Samco are looking better and better.

I was just thinking the same damn thing Rob!! I mean that is pretty stupid if you ask me, I have to order parts from 3 separate companies just to have my intake the way I want it.
Bradus, I don't have any part #'s, but the vendors who can get this stuff sell them in different kits and should know what you are talking about: The piece shown above is known as the high velocity turbo inlet pipe, then there is the IC set, which consists of 3 more hoses, and there is also a set of 2 hoses for the radiator set. I ordered mine from Forge through this thread in the vendor classifieds: http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthr...hreadid=110535 Jan, does your vendor stock that Zero Sports piece or can you get it at least?? Bah, I'm getting the new AEM in the private GB. That does what the other intake does plus the zero sports pipe. Thanks all, these guys are really dropping the ball.
take care, rob |

Bradus, if you really want that piece, talk to Imprezer, he can get you anything from Zero Sports or any JDM company for that matter. As for me, I think I am going to go the AEM route for sure for the same reasons Rob posted.
