How often do you change your oil?...
Reminder: Change oil every ... 12,000 miles?
With new formulas, driving style will determine frequency, automakers say Quote:

i try to keep it at 3000-4000 miles, because the turbocharged engine tends to suck a little more oil through the intake than your average car. I find that if i let it go to 5000 miles, my level is getting a little too low for my tastes.

with synthetic. Car manufactures want you to go longer because with cars lasting as long as they do now they're in trouble... Hmmmr how do we sell more cars... Oh yeah, lets' tell our customers something that will make them blow their motor so they'll have to buy a new one.... |

My car has a oil meter that measures engine temp, rpm, etc and reccomends when to change your oil based on actual driving cycle. So I change it when my car tell me to.

I used to do every 3K, but now I'm doing every 6K. Saves money and more importantly, time.

Before, if you come in with problems and it's been 7K miles since your last oil change, that engine's on your dime. Now Ford picks up the tab. |

6k... the amsoil I use claims it's good for a year or 25k of normal use (15k miles of severe use) but I think that's just being optimistic...

Aside from changing my oil after the initial 1000 mile break-in, I've been doing every 3000 miles, because I drive about 15 miles to work and back 5 days a week. When I get to 10,000 miles I plan to switch to synthetic and change about every 5,000 miles.

I try to adhere to the 5k interval but I don't drive my wrx more than a couple hundred miles a month so I have recently been changing every other month.
It may be overkill but I don't care...It's only 20 bucks or so. |

most EJ255s/257s seem to consume oil, but mine, with a leaking drain plug ( even with the ****ing crush washer ), barely consumes any. |

I usually go by the mileage on the car, not by the time in days since my last oil change.

I started ignoring the 3K rule a long time ago. On the Quest, I normally start thinking about it as it approaches 5K, then consider when I'll do it in accordance with any long trips or hauling, etc..., that we'll do. For my RX8, since I already have to check the oil and top off about every 1500 miles, I don't worry about the level. Plus, I'm always sure to give it its due rev workout once a day to get a good burn in the rotors Same thing, when 5K hits, I just look for the next convenient time, without hurrying too much.
