Brent, SPEED is your friend for drops. I have also hit the small one on Cedar but have yet to attempt the higher one. I'm pretty confident in my riding now though since riding at Duthie and doing the high drops there. There's an instructional video Timm shared with me that was actually really helpful for me in a few aspects of riding. It's called Fluid Ride Like a Pro. It's really hard to describe the method without showing it in real life. Youtube it your friend too. I have checked out a few videos on there for some tips and pointers too.

Stacey and I rode Duthie today. We had a blasty blast up until we tried taking Ryan's Eternal Flow back down the the board walk. BUT we stopped by Gerk's Issaquah and she jumped on a Specialized Pitch and pretty much made up for the bad ride coming down the hill. I'm going to start saving up for that beast... Maybe for Christmas. Hmmm.

The name's Chris (if you were talking to me!)

I really wanted to hit the big drop on Cedars but it was tough to get any sort of speed on that split cedar. I slowed a bit on the first turn which kills any chance of being able to charge the big drop hard enough to make it smooth. I'll have to check out the vids you pointed out.

The Spec Pitch is a sweet bike. I nearly bought a Comp model myself but I ended going with a closeout 09 FSRxc Pro because the components were much better and I really wanted the fox rear shock with Pro-pedal. It makes a huge difference. I was also able to get my bie for cheaper than the Pitch would have run. I couldn't pass it up.

Is he the one that rides up there a lot? I wish the place was closer to my house because it has some great trails. I ride the Tapeworm and Parasite several times a week adn they are very technical and slow, so it's nice to go somewhere that has faster less technical trails.

Yeah he's AWD > FWD.

I really like Paradise a lot but I just always gravitate towards Duthie because I love the bigger features there. I should definitely start riding Paradise more though since it's closer...

I actually have to drive past Duthie the get to Paradise. I go to Duthie a lot, so I'm trying to check out other "local" trails while they are still dry.

The problem with Duthie is that it is so nice it makes all the other areas look like crap. I'm afraid that after my wife rides there for the first time next week, I won't be able to get her to ride the trails by our house!

sometimes you don't have room for speed though. Like the gateway feature for the HLC line at Duthie. Its an uphill drop with a slight turn into it so its difficult to get speed like you would on the clearing drops.

I rode ratpac over in Cle Elum/Roslyn on Saturday. That was a helluva climb. The climb was about 1.5 hours and the downhill was 45 minutes. The downhill was tons of fun. I wish I had the skills (i.e. nuts) to hit the features. There were actually quite a few manmade features that were built. I'm just not super confident on a 2 foot wide bridge. I need to work on riding skinnies. Thankfully Duthie has a lot of those. All in all, i think the climb was worth it. Though, I won't be doing it in the summer ever again. It was actually cooler there than it was in W. Washington, but it was still hot. It was a fire road climb with not a lot of shade.

QFT! Now that Stacey has ridden there, it's hard to get her to want to go anywhere else! I mean, I'm not complaining because I love Duthie as much as anyone else, but this is so true.

Yeah but there's a nice ramp up to it before you get to the boardwalk uphill to get your balance and speed just right before that climb. Since demoing some 6"+ travel bikes I have learned that you just need to go for it... I have even become a lot more comfortable on my 100mm (>4") travel bike on bigger stuff once I got the suspension set up correctly.

I think it's you can shuttle it sometimes although the local builders don't condone it.
Some of those ladders and bridges are so sketch, hopefully they will be rebuilt.

that's the part that's difficult for me.

I think they only shuttle for events. Some of the features were definitely very sketchy. But there were many that weren't though. Just didn't hit them. In hindsight, we should've tried sessioning some of them. The only one we stopped at was the Spool. It was a pretty small jump into a bank on a hill. I've got POV video, but its not much for watching. It's almost 2 gigs and so i'll have to do a lot of editing.

What camera are you using? GoPro or ContourHD?
A buddy destroyed my helmet cam dirt bike riding so need to replace but i can't decide which to go with. The GoPro has teh cool chest mount which is great for biking, but is useless snowboarding.

i'm using a gopro. I found it at an REI garage sale for $60 last year.

Its not HD but it works for youtube videos. I think gopro is putting out another budget helmet cam that only does 720p or something.

I would like a GoPro butttt Taking $300 out of my Enduro buget is just a no no right now. :-P

I hit up Center Cycle in Renton today and hopped on a medium Enduro and a Large also. I definitely felt more comfortable on the large. I can thank my monkey arms for that... I'm about 5'11" and my arm span is just about 6'1"... Weird I know.

Last night I swapped out my big chainring for a Nashbar bash guard and went and rode the Parasite. There were two logs I use to slightly catch on that I totally clear now, and the one big log I'd always nail hard was easy to get over. THe bashguard just slide across the top without digging in! It was $15 well spent!

Since I only ride my full suspension bike on dirt trails, I have no use for the big chainring up front so I figured I'd give a bashguard a try. I also put one on my wifes full suspension bike. She hits the same logs I do, so I think she will be happy about the extra clearance and the ability to slide over logs instead of digging into them.

^^That's the one!^^

The picture doesn't do it justice either. It is a really nice looking piece in person and very solid. It blends in perfect with the cranks on our bikes too.

Its nice. Just dont crash. EVER. Its rock, and everything hurts when you crash haha. I brought a girlfriend there once to ride the easy stuff and she fell over....bruised her knee so bad she couldnt walk for a week. Its nice, but they should have spent the money better (i.e. LESS ROCK) I think you will have much more fun ANYWHERE you go than there.

edit: Its called Colonade mtb park.

I might ride over there at lunch time and check it out. The map they have of it makes it look really cool, but I watched some videos of the place and it doesn't look at cool as the maps make it out to be.

Collonade is pretty cool. They fed up on two things. One is the rocks everywhere, the price you pay for a mistake is pretty hight. And two... it's under I5 so it gets like 0 rain which means everything is always BONE dry...

Go to Duthie... that's where all the cool hucker kids hang out now
