^^ Huh.. 1st especially on my 16' STI is very aggressively geared and very quick to pickup speed. I love it. The car is so easy to shift smoothly too since the pause between 1-2, 2-3 is basically identical at 3000rpm.

STIs are easy to stall. Especially in reverse or if you often play around with the SI settings. But once you get used to it (or when tuned) it's second nature. Same w hill assist.

Also don't understand about 1-2nd gear. They are very aggressive. Super fun when you want to gun it. Not so fun when you're dealing w stop and go.

Speaking of gripes... i had a little rattle evident only on cold starts. Turns out it was the sunroof trim. I thought it was coming from behind, then thought it was the centre console... but all I had to do was press firmly against the sunroof trim and the rattle is gone and not come back. I'm 100% rattle-less now. Victory!

I guess it’s subjective. My 2010 wrx had a way more aggressive 1/2. This car pulls harder in 3rd. Or maybe my **** is broken ¯\_(***12484;)_/¯

Ah you're probably referring to turbo lag... the STI turbo spools slower than the WRX. So the initial "feel" is a bit slower. This is not because of gearing, but because of the turbo and the early torque delivery in the STI vs WRX.
Your stuff's not broken

Hill assist has caused me to stall more than once. I am used to switching to the gas pedal very quickly and immediately slipping the clutch to hold on the hill. This does not work with hill assist. Need to very casually move from break to gas keeping the clutch all the way in. Then start as normal.

I wish the hill assist could be turned off with a switch. There are times I would like it but mostly I hate it.

Default Some gripes, but no regerts.

Stereo won't keep my saved presets where I put them.

Volume display is annoying... overlays the whole screen.

Apple Carplay only works when plugged into USB

Stock tires are garbage, uber loud.

Can't turn off DRL

You can turn it off. with car on, shifter in Neutral, ebrake on, press and hold traction control button for 30 seconds (until traction control light turns off, takes FOREVER) within 5 seconds, press traction control button once, you will see the hill assist light turn on. Light on = disabled. Turn car off then start again... Hill assist light should stay on.

VDC is too intrusive.

So far I've lost all of the radio presets a couple of times, and once the screen returned to the default setting for no apparent reason.

Can't move everything I want to take off the touchscreen home page, off the home page. Don't want to see what I'm not going to use.

Brake pad 'bite' is too weak/soft, doesn't always give good confidence on harder stops.

Directional signal/4-way flash module is way too quiet. Gets drowned out by tire noise, having a window open, even by the radio at low volume.

Turns have to be unreasonably tight for the turn signal to self-cancel. Right-angle turns on neighborhood or city streets, sure. Gentle bends onto highway entrance or exit ramps, usually not.

There is a software update for the radio. Might fix the losing of radio presets.

Got the Radio update on my wife's WRX she got it last fall, seemed to fix the issue, when I got my STi, same dealer now says "...SOA says the update doesn't fix it..." and wouldn't do the update.

Wouldn't/shouldn't a December 2018 build have been late enough in the model year to have gotten that fix as a running production change?

See if it stops by pushing the cluster lens when it rattles. My STI did that early on and it was an easy fix.

noticed a thud/thug when you put it in 1st gear. very noticeable. Doesnt happen all the time though. Had dealership checked it, they test drive it but according to the master mechanic Subaru transmission are indestructible. I doubt that. Not noticing it now a days since I dont pay attention to it anymore.

I find my 13'wrx faster and pulls harder than my 19' sti.

Mine was an April 19 build and it still needed the update. I don't know any details about the update, other than mine needed it and it was newer than yours.

So do the 2015-2019 WRX. They FEEL faster up to 3,500 rpm or so.

But I felt the top end on an unmodified WRX....... unacceptable. After some modifications it was ok.

If custom tuned yes. If Stage 1 OTS, no. The OTS 1 makes it feel slower.

.. or just get lighter wheels. The Prodrives can be had for cheap, ~20lbs, and they fit the car perfectly with no lowering.

My 19 WRX feels heavy vs my 16 STI due to gearing. If your 19 STI feels slower than my WRX, you're missing out A LOT!

Car is still under warranty. Just thought it would be much faster since it’s an STI already. Both cars are stock.

I have the 19’ STI but prefer my 13’ WRX. It pulls way harder even if it’s stock.

So this is means it's a dealership reflash of some sort?

Yes.

I had an issue where I got kicked out of the satellite radio and back to FM. The screen was not responsive. Selecting a different station with the dial unfroze the screen. It's not quite was you had happen, but it is not totally dissimilar either.

It happened to me 3 times on 3 different days, then never again. The dealer updated the software after it happened. Not sure if the update made any difference.
