Question AP and CEL codes

Anyone have problems with their AP's not picking up CEL codes?

I've never had any problems on my car in the past, and it has received proper maintenance at the required intervals. Drove the car home from work on Friday no prob, drove the wife's car around on Saturday, and when I got back into my car today (Sunday) I had a CEL. I don't notice any differences driving the car whatsoever. Took my car to get an oil change today, thinking it might be an oil issue, but it didn't reset.

So I hook up my AP to check for codes, and I get "No codes found", but the light is still staring me in the face. In the end, I reset the ECU and now it's clear.

I guess my questions is this: are there codes that the AP can clear but can't find?

Thanks in advance.

Basics:
2005 WRX Wagon with 29,200 miles
AP Stage 1 Cali map
Invidia G200 Cat Back Exhaust
K&N Panel Filter (replaced 5 days ago)

the AP is NOT a CEL code reader...do NOT trust it.

Get a real code reader

Thanks for the reply. Taking the next logical step, any suggestions for an OBD2 reader?
