Default Cobb SF Intake + oil

I tried to search and couldn't find my specific question. I installed a Cobb intake and didn't realize the filter came pre-oiled (stupid me), so I oiled it with K&N per instructions - very lightly. The filter is in no way dripping oil or anything. Should I be concerned that I over-oiled? Should I remove it, clean and re-oil or if it is driving fine, just leave it?

Not dripping of oil is good. Not sure if there is a specific answer to the question. Given how important the MAF sensor is (for cars that are still using it), I would be inclined to run it through a clean and re-oil process. Yeah, total pita. Maybe call COBB and ask their thoughts?

Anyone else chime in? (and for the record I think it's a fail on COBBs part using an oiled filter when there are tons of proven results for the dry KN and AEM applications).

Clean and re-oil just as a precaution.

i have the same intake, wrap with a paper towel overnight inside and out. It will wick away any excess oil if you are in doubt.

thanks for the advice everyone. spoke with cobb and they said i shouldn't be too worried as long as it's not dripping. i'll try newspaper and forget about it unless there are any problems.

This sounds dumb but what I do after re oiling is throw a rag in the filter and start er up for about a minute. The idles will be beyond rough but hey you should see th amount of oil it catches! Ew that went in yer engine!

Usually when I oil my filter, I just set it on a rag or towel for a few hours and let it wick out the extra oil. Early on K&N had this step in the instructions but they took it out. I wonder why.

Lemme take a shot in the dark here. Some dumbass who had no patience nor common sense read to stuff a rag in it. He then failed to see the step for removal of said rag before the installation and sucked it down his intake, damaged something then tried to sue them. After all, it is America's favorite past time.

Lol alright dickhead. First of all you'd have to be some sorta retard to leave it in. I forgot to say I leave it in for like 10 secondsl. Second of all the cobb intake body thing has a couple of pieces of pastil that keep things like a rag from going in. After you take it out it is blue. Terd

You say that, but I've "fixed" at least 2 Subarus that went to a "mechanic" for work.

The "mechanic" left a rag in the intake, which got sucked into the turbo and jammed it from spinning.

Wow so touchy.

I dont think you were being referenced in his post. I believe he was referring to why K&N no longer reccomends this technique.

SO the use of DHEAD AND TURD totally unneccessary.

OP I would also put a rag in there before the screen. The tiney droplets get on your MAF and screw it up.
The only reson to stick with the COBB oil is to keep your filter pretty and trademark COBB blue.

This thread was amusing to read haha. But anyway I have the same intake and oiled the filter with K&N oil and just took a paper towel and dabbed the excess oil off intsalled it and been running for 6000 miles without any problems
