battery relocation problem
i hope this is in the right section.
alright so i rerouted my battery to the trunk while i have everything pulled out off my motor, so i could balance out the weight and free up some space in the front (please dont tell me i shouldnt have done it, or have gone to a lightweight battery). i have everything all wired up. i have the stock positive line to a distribution block, then a line from the distribution block to the battery, and then the 8g wire from the fuse box to the distributor block. stock negative grounded to the body, and the negative from the battery grounded to the back. i pretty much followed this tutorial Battery Relocation Project. when i hook up the battery terminals, everything is fine but my defi's are turning on, so obviously a wire is getting constant power when it should. pretty sure its the 8g wire that is coming from the fuse relay box. now, the ONLY thing i did differently from that tutorial, is use a different distributor block, which i think is my problem. the distribution block i have isnt like the monster, its shape looks like a stop sign and has no fuses in it. Now im pretty sure that its my problem, but can anyone verify this? the 8g wire that he has routed to his monster distribution block has a fuse in it. is this my problem, should i have a fuse in the a. line or b. get a new distribution block? i wanted to get the exact one he has but im not sure exactly which one it is. thanks guys!

a fuse or lack there of would not cause you to have constant power where you had switched before, nor should a simple distribution block. Sounds like you have a short somewhere, or you did something funny unintentionally when wiring this up, check the circuit that the gauges are wired to.

You're putting power somewhere unintentionally. It's nothing to do with fuses. I'd carefully check where your power is getting routed to from the distribution block.

Its wired just like that write up.
8g wire from fuse relay box to distribution block, wire from distribution block all the way to the pos side of Battery, original pos battery line to distribution block. I have no idea what's causing it. The only thing I was thinking of was it had to be the distro block bc all the wiring seems correct. My defis consistently blink though, they dont just turn on like normal and show their readings. They all blink when I connect the battery. |

Think about it. The fuse relay line originally connected to the end of the battery terminal. Both that line and the original pos line are now routed to the distro block. The only line added is the one from the distro to the back of the block, so I dont see what's wrong. My defis are spliced into my clock and the power line is to the 12v source on the cig lghter. Anyone who has rerouted their battery to the trunk, help a brotha out. |

what gauge wire did you use to route the battery (in the trunk) to the front distro block. if it is not "heavy" enough it could cause resistance/not enough amperage to everything else. hope this helps

I was going to use 2g but decided with 4 like the writeup suggested. I know most will say go with bigger but i wanted to follow the writeup. Anyway, if the wire wasn't heavy enough wouldnt it NOT be giving enough power to light stuff up or anything?

I guess being that subarus use a lot of switched grounds you could have the circuit the gauges are getting illumination from could be shorted to ground... check a wiring diagram for wires you spliced into for the gauges. |

well its the wires from the clock. and the power wire is the wire coming off the cig lighter.
ill give that a shot, it just confuses me b/c everything is wired perfectly, at least i think so. i wouldnt understand why just the gauges are going on. |

i am in the process of reversing my intake manifold, so my engine harness is completely out. im hopefully assuming that is the reason why my security light is flashing and the gauges are turning on. but i still dont know why im getting constant power.

should i just ditch the distribution block, run a line from the positive end of the battery to the original + battery line, and then run the fuse relay line in that line too?

so i checked my defi wires, and everything seemed to be ok. i accidently pulled some wires off when i pulled the clock up, but i fixed all the wires.
i think i was unclear about this, but when i connect the battery, the gauges do NOT sweep and turn on like normal. they just blink like they arent connected right. should i reconnect all the lines and make sure they are ok? i just dont get it, i looked up tons of battery relocation tutorials on google, and they all are set up just like how i did mine. im pretty sure none of the wiring is incorrect. also, can anyone tell me when you have the engine harness of, does the security light blink consistently? if it does, my problem might be with the defi wiring, not the re-wiring i did. i remembered that i had to switch my rca cable lines to the driver side (since i ran the pos. line for the batter on the passenger) so i might of pulled a wire loose or something. someone help me out |

can anyone confirm about the security light blinking with the harness off? When I get out of work I'm going to see about relocating my power line from my defis, and all of its wires. Its just wierd bc they are blinking like they aren't connected right, not like they are getting power and sweeping.

Something like this is almost impossible to diagnose without looking at it. The light should blink if the engine harness is off due to no input from the sensors. It might be easier to diagnose once everything else is reconnected, however if something is wrong you might damage something else when you reconnect everything. Get a multimeter or at least a 12V tester and start checking wires. If possible, put the wiring back to OEM and check if the problem still exists.

the only problem is my defis coming on when I connect the battery. Everything else is normal. So returning wires to oem wouldnt do me much. I did dc my defis power line n when I reconnected the battery they obv shut off but there is no ther light or anything on. So it must be the wiring or something for the defis. I did move reroute some wires anabe I jerked a line or somthing.

just rerouted the defis to the hvac and stereo, still they are turning on and blinking.
when i connect the pos and neg on the battery, they just light up and the warning light starts blinking. i looked up the defi troubleshooting, and this is what is happening to the defi's ***12300;SERIAL ERROR CHECK***12301; This function reports that communication is impossible between meters and Control Unit ***8545;. The pointer points downwards and the WARNING LED flashes twice at the same interval. |

Another possibility is that the control unit and/or gauges are defective. Don't have Defi's so can't help with that. If you were changing wires around you may have inadvertently fried them. Just a thought?

maybe, i hope not though
i did notice my oil pressure gauge line was sliced, so i cut it and resoldered it. i wouldnt see that throwing off the whole gauges. but i really didnt touch the defi's before that. |

alright guys im bumping this up b/c i still have a problem.
got my car back together tonight (haha just to take it apart again), connected the engine harness, tried to reconnect the battery to see maybe the defi's would shut off, but nope, same thing, defi's blinking (the serial error above a couple posts) and the security light still blinking. wtf? i think im going to get rid of the distro block, run a line from the battery to the original positive line, and then just run the 8g wire from the fuse panel to that wire as well. if that doesnt work im going to say **** it and put my battery back to the engine bay. anyone have any ideas/help? |

i tried putting the battery to stock location and just took the original neg and positive (the positive i taped the fuse line up to b/c it originally goes to the + side as well) and its STILL blinking. theres no way i shortcircuited a line because i rerouted all the lines from my defis into a new spot. help! |

well ive found the problem.
something to do with my oil pressure wire. it was sliced into when i was trying to clean up my engine bay so i cut it and re-soldered it. when i connect the pos and neg of the battery, and unplug the oil pressure wire, they shut off. when i plug it right back in, it stays off. i tried just turning the key to the on position (car is still apart with the harness out) and the lights kinda freaked out. i guess ill have to recheck it when i get it all back together tomorrow and hopefully they will act normal. |
