Default Vibration at idle normal?

At idle my car has a vibration, usually if you give a bit of throttle it will go away...but that's not a fix. Anybody know if this is normal, or if there is a way to fix it easily...i.e. not taking it BACK to the dealer (4th time since I got the car...)

Yup completely normal, its just one of the subaru boxer quirks that you have to get used to, and maybe even grow to like. I know I do

Okay...I guess when my mom says "at idle" she means all the time So does having a vibration when you're driving...enough to numb your butt...is that normal? And what can I do to fix it...since I doubt its normal.

Vibration when driving, is it engine speed dependant or vehicle speed dependant? Does it also make any noise? Is it a quick vibration (foot massage) or a slow vibration (washing machine)?

Its vehicle speed dependent. Mainly on highway (like 70ish) is when my butt starts to get numb. The last few times I've noticed that my lugnuts have been semi-loose...like an eigth of a turn is required...but then again I'm using a toyota corolla lugnut wrench...so that's part of the problem.

Diverting from that, where can I get a good lugnut wrench for my subaru? Thanks.

Dont use a lugnut wrench. A plain old 17mm deap socket and a good torque wrench is the best thing you could use.

Do you have any noise? If you stick the car in neutral does the vibration stay?

Guess I'll have to go out and get a torque wrench at some point then!

I don't notice any noise, just a steady vibration from the car. After a while it seems to go away.

Looked this morning, no wheel weights off, I'm going to drive it later and hope that I notice it being better after tightening the lugnuts.

Got a wrench today (22 bucks compared to 70 for the cheapest one) and a 17mm deep socket adaptor...and there is no way that the 17mm is large enough. Is it 18mm or 19mm that is required for a GT spec wheel? I'm going to return it tomorrow but don't want to keep on returning if I don't have to.

Lug wrench: I use a 1/2" drive 6 point 3/4" deep socket and a 1/2" drive breaker bar.

Shimmy: since we have similar years, I found a shimmy from 72-80MPH that would come and go. I balanced tires and checked suspension/steering parts. All were OK.
I finally found the problem. I had a bottom piston in the drivers side caliper that was hanging up in it's bore. I found it by driving on the highway for a bit and then carefully pulling over and feeling the center of each wheel. The drivers front was definitely warmer.
Jacked up the car and I could feel the drag compared to the passengers side.
I bought a rebuilt caliper (local parts place, $87.00) and installed it along with pads and the problem is gone.
I had also noticed that some tanks of gas dropped the MPG by ~2MPG.
Something to check.
