Moderators - I know this is totally OT, but since I respect the people on here, I thought I'd give it a try. Please delete this post if it is too much of a violation to be on this thread.

My nephew is leaving for Iraq next week. He is in the reserves. Originally he was going to be assigned to a prison, but things seem like they are changing since he won a bunch of sharp-shooter awards.

I am giving him $$$'s at a party tomorrow but he has some cousin's that are asking me for ideas on a gift. If anyone on here has been over there or knows folks, can you maybe suggest some gift ideas? If he as really into his car, that would be easier for me, but he's not a 'car guy' (I know - great place to post this, right?) --

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Does he have an ipod? Or a laptop? International phonecards are a great idea also...does he like video games? Get him one or two maybe, there are places to play those if he doesnt take his own. Im just giving ideas off the top of my head...but I would say a phonecard is a great idea.

parat75 - thank you!! Called the cousin's and shared what you had suggested. They are picking up the international phone cards this morning to give him.

I appreciate the suggestions. Funny -- - - one response to my strange request and it was right on target!!

To all of our military folks - -- this board gives me an opportunity to say THANK YOU!!! Whether overseas or here in the US, I and my family truly recognize and appreciate your service to our country and how you are giving so much of yourselves to protect us. I salute you today - and everyday - for your sacrifice.

No problem! Been there and done that. I use to use the phonecards overseas, but with my job I can call home without one

I really like the air national guard so far... I am basically like a full active duty Air Force person, but i have the choice of going to the weekend warrior if i want. This job has provided me to make the monster of a 98 RS which i own today. Only bad part is my unit is not on a AEF rotation. So, we are non-deployable. I want to travel and see the world to some degree.
