Angry Dear careless driver who almost ran me over today:

What part of the STOP on a stop sign do you not understand? I could maybe understand if you didn't always come to a complete stop if there was no other traffic, but you went right through the sign without even slowing down much. Did you not even see me enter the intersection before you? If I had not seen you and hit the brakes, you would have hit me for sure. Worse, I was on my bicycle, so you could easily have killed me. Maybe you don't care about me, but think about my son waiting at school for his father to pick him up. Think about him sitting there, waiting and waiting, and about his mother having to tell him through her tears that his father is never coming home. Think about that little boy growing up without a father. Just think about it. Then maybe whatever you were daydreaming about, or wherever you needed to get to one minute faster, won't seem so important to you.

yours sincerely

They don't think about anything but themselves, which is why they do these types of things.

I don't understand how 90% of the people on the road ever passed a driving test.
Glad you saw the moron because on a bike, you'd lose.

You shoulda tied the driver in a sack and tossed him into the ocean.

Or was that over the line?

over the line would be dragging him out of the car, spinning the back tire of the bike really fast then jamming said drivers penis in it.

Thing is, this was not some punk kid. It was an older woman, probably with kids herself or even grandkids my son's age. She was very apologetic.

Because the driving tests given in the US are WAY too easy. It's not that hard to pass a multiple guess written test, drive for an hour (at most) at sub-speed limit speeds, and park the car a couple of times when it determines whether or not you get your license.

That's easy; all you have to do is "drive around the block without hitting anything" according to the teenage son of someone I know here. It's really a joke.

Those are the worst. One blew a red light that had been red for a LONG time when I was making a left one day and ran right into me. She was totally oblivious that there was even a traffic signal there. Her response when we started trading information? "People drive so crazy around here." Well no **** lady, you are running red lights. They are driving crazy to keep from hitting your dumb ass!

That is basically all I had to do...

I came to the conclusion about three years ago that people have determined that traffic signs and traffic laws are mere suggestions for people to follow and not actual "laws of the road".

Have fun in New England if you move up here...it is 1000 times worse...

I never actually took my test. I went to go do it and the lady said " does your air work?" I said no, to which she replied "Damn, it's too hot to do this w/ no air, don't worry about it baby, you passed but dont tell no body" I was in and out in 25 minutes (most of that was the wait)

Exactly. 90% of the drivers around here are like this.

If you fire a gun in a public place and almost hit someone, you get thrown in jail, but if you almost kill someone with a multiton piece of machinery you get a most a small ticket.

We lived in MA for 5 yrs already and spent a lot of time on routes 2 and 128. It was bad but DC is almost as bad.

I agree that DC is nuts...but I swear it is like everyone up here just decided one day that they are exempt from the rules of road...

The thing that gets me the worst is the practice that if you have waited for more then 60 seconds for a break in traffic to pull out of side street, you apparently have the right to just go ahead and pull out in the middle of traffic forcing people to slam on their brakes and let you in....awesome...I see this EVERY DAY !!!

Yeah, I remember that. People on side streets would look right at me and pull out anyway. I think if we move there I will get an old pickup or something like Andrea's. Maybe people will think twice about getting a truck bumper through their window.
