Default new pads and rotors or just pads??

Ok,

I have never had to replace brakes on a car before b/c I havent kept one as long as my impreza.

All in all, I have not looked at my pads/rotors to see how bad off they are. What do I look for??

I have 24k miles on the car w/ 7 autocrosses (4 runs each) and well...it takes alot for me to stop my car.

What is a good recommendation? Replacement of just the front pads or all four? What about the rotors?

Thanks,
-justin

Your rotors may be glazed. Pull your front tires off and look for what are called hotspots, they will be a different color than the rest of the rotors (sort of multicolored). If that's the case, or if you just want to upgrade, buy a set of EBC Reds (these are not too harsh for the street). Then get your rotors cut, this will give you a nice flat surface for your new pads to work on and get rid of the hotspots. You also might want to consider stainless steel brakelines and some upgraded brake fluid.

What pads are going to stop me faster?

1.Ebc green stuff

2.Ebc red stuff

3.Oem pad

I already run dot4 fluid & plan to get ss lines in the near future. I do brake hard on the street and at autocross & I have heard from various people that ebc green stuff is pretty much the same as an OE pad when it comes to stop distance.

Number 2. And this is assuming you have a decent tire on the car. All the brakes in the world aren't going to do squat if your tires aren't grippy.

Default ebc greens are no better than oem

i have ebc greens on the front, and there is no difference. someone at cobb told me that ebc pads just cause problems. they cost twice what oem pads do, but are not better.

do a search on them, there are lots of cases of them leaving a glaze on rotors that causes squealing and other problems, There are too many proven pads that work great for our cars..no reason to risk being another EBC victim
