Cool Cow-orker says FWD better than AWD in snow...where is video of AWD vs. FWD in snow?

OK, I did a search but the archives for the most part only go back to May. Last winter someone posted videos of a Subaru 2.5 RS vs. a Honda something doing donuts in a snow-covered parking lot. The 2.5 RS tore up the lot and snow was flying everywhere. The FWD car could barely move and couldn't turn.

Please, someone post the URL to those videos! This particular cow-orker drives a Civic EX and says that, come Winter, her car will outperform my 2.2 OBS and BSer's 2.5 RS in the snow. Teehee.

whoever says that is very stupid..
FWD is better (not really better just safer) than RWD in the snow.. but AWD rules all!

That coworker is sadly mistaken and you don't need our help to prove it.

With real snow/ice tires AWD and FWD both have an advantage over RWD; they can use power to create traction at the wheels that steer.

AWD goes further and enables the rear tires to do something more than just ride along. Shouldn't take a genious to see that four driven wheels have more traction than two!

I know that and you know that, but she refuses to listen to reason and common sense. BSer tried every logical explaination in the book but she has the "I'm right, you're wrong" attitude and refuses to listen to reason.

I figure the only way to show her is with the video.

OK, those are the videos I was looking for, but kenny.fac-simile.com is down (where the videos actually are). Anyone have a mirror?

Thumbs up

BSer just wandered in. Yeah, regarding her thinking her CEX can take an ITR...she did tell BSer that her stock CEX can easily take BSer's 2.5 RS off the line because "it's the driver, not the car." Yeah. Whatever. My 2.2 OBS can beat a CEX even when I miss a shift!

Ask her if a truck with 4 wheel drive would do better then a car with front wheel drive. When she says yes, explain that you have all wheel drive just like the trucks 4 wheel drive.

Remeber, according to the general public, trucks can do everything better.

No way. I'm not letting her within 10' of my car. I've been hear passenger. That was the most frightening 20 miles of my life. She lugs the engine, doesn't know how to shift, passes people on the right on single lane roads and I felt her rear end break loose a couple time.

Yeah, not letting her near it, especially not after the STi body kit goes on!

Actually, my friend has a 58 coupe de ville that makes a pretty good snow buster. Mostly due to sheer weight of the car! Not fun to drive in the snow though!!!

Nope. She's dead serious. She's the same way about work stuff, too. She'll be proven dead wrong and still waste the customer's time "proving" her way is right, only after three hours to give up, pretend she didn't work on the item and then transparently hand the trouble ticket off to one of her cow-orkers.

Sean,
You should just avoid people like that. No amount of reasoning or logic is going to convince her. It is not worth your time. If she is ever stuck however, I would offer her zero help and feel quite good the next morning when I returned to the work lot to see her frozen to death in her FWD car. The coroner would classify as death by stubborness. Dumba$$.

I know the type. Betcha she doesn't have many friends. People like that just like to argue. I usually agree with them quietly and walk away. That irritates them to no end. Don't play her game. Trust me.

82 BRAT with 12 in. lift

Post

I know how it is. Now this is a simple matter of a fact that has no reason to be disputed.

I got one like that where I work. He is a Hummer freak, the truck, not the act. I am an Army vet who has driven Hummers in places such as Saudi (sand), Hati (Mud, sand, deep gullies), Bosnia (Snow, mud, more mud), Somalia (you name it they got it). I also owned an 86 Brat for 5 years until it was destroyed (Another one is in the works now!) that had about 8 inches lift, + fender cutouts, roll cage/bar, dual shocks in the rear with a helper in the front, 33in X 15.5 in wide tires and yes, a proper ring and pinion.

Now having a combined total of 11 YEARS experience with these vehicles I feel qualified to draw a comparison. The bottom line is a BRAT with less than $2000 in mods (incl. tires, lift, gears and other mods)can go anywhere a Hummer can and then some. I am not speculating, I am speaking from EXPERIENCE. Now this Assclown cries "No way" "no it can't" etc. I ask him if he has ever driven a Hummer, "No, but..." I ask him if he has ever driven a Brat or even know that it had 4 wheel independent susp. w/ crazy articulation, "No, but...."

Now to make things worse this is the same fool who claimed that the Impreza was just an econobox that handled no better than a ford escort. I took him for an after hours STI induced torture session thougth the parking lot lanes and he now refers to my car as the "Vomit Comit" and hold it in appropriate reverence. SO what am I going to do? When the BRAT gets finished I am going to have to take him on a ride, then find someone with a Hummer to come along too. About the time I have to drive back down and help the Hummer winch out he sould be convinced yet again.
