Go figure?

Great response! Basically yes we love what we cant have over here. Maybe our fellow Subbie owners can work out an international trade. You guys ship over the UK options like the adjustable spoiler, roof vane and rear fog & Recaro seats. We (USA) will give you a 4" plastic piece, non adjustable spoilers and fatty mcgee seats

I'm thinking about doing one of these in my rear bumper after my friend bought a wagon with an evo rear fog installed on it

Just curious the 04' STI models do they have a rear fog lamp when sold in Europe?

You guys will be lucky if this is mostly plug-n-play. The one for the hatch, not so much. I had to run a wire all the way from the fuse panel under the dash, back to the hatch to run the rear fog. I just wired mine to turn on with my front fogs so I didn't have to source the Euro stalk.

Thanks for doing the legwork Scott.. Can you give us a ballpark figure on what the parts cost? (Are we talking cheap like $50, or more like $500?)

I have rear fogs on my other car, but in 11 years I've probably used them less than 5 times. So I'm thinking about just getting the reflector and accompanying hardware needed to mount it, but skipping the actual light/harness.

Ricey? Maybe, but I like the way it looks..

It seems that the placeholder for the rear fog is there, just need to remove that trim piece.

really nice find!!!

shame on the naysayers who make jokes about JDM parts . Dont kid yourselves, cause we know you'd be the first in line to buy JDM recaro seats if they became available here for 04+ models!

Total Parts Cost w/Shipping was $155 USD. Once I have time to install it, I may not need all of the parts I have shown. These parts were selected by Subaru as an assembly. So say you needed to replace the entire rear bumper and its accessories, you would need all of these parts. However, just replacing the plastic piece on our USDM may not require all items shown.

If I have to, I will find a similar connector to this rear fog plug that will allow me to pin my own connector and run the wire to the relay for the front fog light options which I will not use. The front fog light relay and wires should be there since its a dealer option. If that is the case I will simply buy the stalk for the USDM front fog light operation and simply tie it to the rear instead. This way it gives a clean factory look and operation. Otherwise you can simply add your own switch on the column or dash as you see fit.

I went by the local dealer who has a STI on the showroom, got underneath and checked the backside of the plastic panel. From what I can tell is it has clips on both sides that hold it in place. It is a separate piece from the rest of the rear diffuser so it can be removed and replaced with the rear fog. However, until mine comes in and I can take the bumper off to get a clear view of what is back there to mount, I do not know how plug and play the light is.

Scott

Joke is on them...this isn't even a "JDM" piece, it's technically "EDM".

Since the rear fog lamp is not a requirement in the US, I would guess that the wiring will not be in place on a USDM model. But again, we'll see what happens when you take care of this on your car.

The USDM GDs have the wiring ready to go for a rear fog...the GR hatch does not though. It will be interesting to see how plug-n-play this piece is on the new sedan.

Looks like you guys have the same rear bumper so all of this should technically work on the new WRX sedan as well.

Default GR Rear Fog Install

US Piece is actually one piece that runs all the way across. So the piece must be cut in two places to allow for the fog light. Also, I'm studying this on a lift and 1) looks like rear bumper must be removed in order to properly install the light 2) I have not found any plug/play wiring available. Has anyone else tackled the GR Rear Fog Install?

the bumper does not have to be removed... you can bend it out a little from under.. also the wiring is super easy... i wired mine to my brake light so that it comes on with the brakes.. harness that comes with it has all the clips that you will need for install.. also i bought mine on japanparts.com.. comes as a kit.. intsall took about half hour from start to finish...

That's not the correct way to wire the rear fog light. It should be wired to the stalk (or separate switch) in the cabin to be used in inclement weather only. It's the one and only purpose for the light. You already have enough brake lights on the car the way it was designed, it's useless to wire this as a FOURTH brake light.

So where can you order these? I was going to hit up the posts department at my subie dealer since you provided the part numbers.

Because the stock tail lights are not bright enough?

This is going to be the next useless Hella Supertone-esque mod isn't it.

I'm wondering how this rear fog light activates the brake pedal in the car behind you. Bluetooth?

The truth is that I can purchase red reflective tape and accomplish what most people are trying to do- adding something interesting to show off on their cars in the Members Gallery.
