Default V7 JDM STI :Engine Wiring Harness

Ok, so Im in the process of buying a 2001 V7 STI motor. It comes with the 6sp tranny,TMIC, Harness,ECU, etc. My question is, which engine harness do I use? I know the V7 has AVCS but the wiring harness was set up for RHD not LHD. Can I re-use the stock V7 harness or do I have to modify my WRX harness to suit the AVCS? Anything else I might be missing please do tell.

Someone will pipe in with the documentation... the motor is pretty much plug and play other than the AVCS. You can buy a kit from a vendor... I'm not sure whom, or you can add 4 wires and modify one of the connectors on the harness.

You definitely do NOT want to pull the V7 harness...

This is, of course, assuming you are swapping this in to your 2002.

I mean it is a 2001 Motor. So I am 100% sure its an OBD-2. Unless otherwise. I mean even If I have the ECU it would still not be a Plug-N-Play?

There's a write up on this. You can reuse your existing USDM harness, but you'll need to change the pins around and add an additional 4 wires to attach to the JDM ecu.

Dude.. everything plugs in.. except for avcs.. its direct plug and play in your existing cabin harness.. but run the V7 ecu. get the IA avcs harness to make avcs work. very very easy swap.

Not to thread bomb or anything.

Im new to the site, I just purchased an 07 wrx tr for $8000. (It had a blown motor and was a friend of mine)
I have been doing some research but cannot find exact information on the swap im wanting to do. most jdm swaps i have came across in great detail are bugeyes or earlier models.

Im interested in doing a jdm V7 swap but keep it LHD. on ebay there is a few front clips for sale for $9500.

My question is, is there any link or info on doing a swap like im planning on doing. an older engine in a newer car. (Mainly wiring related)

Any and all info/help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I went the rout of using the JDM ecu and harness.

OBD II, of course

Will it pass U.S. OBD II plug in inspection/emissions check, No.
Not all states require, check your local listings.

JDM ECU won't send 'ready bit' that US OBD II tests look for.

Keep your USDM ECU and flash with JDM map (No AVCS) to get thru US OBD II plug in inspection.

JDM ECU V7 passes NJ inspection. Mine definiately sets the ready bit. Shows the O2 sensor heaters are working properly.

my JDM ECU V7 also passed PA inspection. I was told that newer engine in older car is ok, now if I had newer car with older engine then there could have been issues.

i'm pretty sure you have to merge the harnesses, a friend of mine has a v8 swapped in his GC, thats what he had to do

The 02 RS harness is more or less the same as any other year RS and will not plug into any WRX harness. You will need to have the harnesses merged. I've done quite a few of the 02+ RS'.

will taking all of the pins out of my rs plugs, and placing them in the jdm plugs (obviously in the right spots) work?

Unfortunately you can not repin the plugs. They are a different shape and will not fit. The harness needs to be merged. The plugs in the engine compartment are also pinned differently and located in different positions on the turbo cars.

what is involved in a harness merge, I only see people recommended to take it to xxxx shop, I prefer to do everything myself.

I can probably get my hands on a wrx harness, but will it plug into my rs components (for the body) and I will still need the dccd, is that possible when using a wrx harness?

I found a guide for a gc to gd merge, so I have the general idea, but if the metal pins inside the plugs are the same from my rs to the wrx, I still can just repin them, otherwise I may try to find the wrx pins in bulk somwhere so I don't have any cut wires.

Not anymore, I set the ready bit, no CELs...but still failed. The report and the inspector explained a handful of the emissions criteria showed up as "Unknown". This was through the month of December '11. I had it pass before in 03.
