Default Charger AWD Police Pursuit Car Sets Record

http://columbiacars.wordpress.com/20...r-sets-record/

Quote:
The 2014 Dodge Charger Pursuit AWD has set a record for the fastest lap time ever recorded (1:33.85) for an all-wheel-drive test sedan at the Michigan State Police’s (MSP) annual Police Vehicle Evaluation earlier this week at Grattan Raceway in Belding, Michigan. The lap times were greater than the turbocharged Ford AWD car.

Dodge had the only test cars with lap times under 1:34.
The all-wheel drive version of the Charger Pursuit is only available with a 370-horsepower Hemi V8 engine and five-speed Mercedes automatic transmission. An eight-speed automatic is available on civilian V6 cars, but not on Charger Pursuits, including the rear-wheel-drive V6 model.
The Charger has a segment-exclusive front-axle-disconnect system to increase gas mileage, and seamlessly transitions between RWD and AWD with no driver intervention. It is scheduled to be sold to law enforcement customers in Spring 2014.

Charger Pursuit V8 features best-in-class stopping power, with 60-0 in under 127 feet, when equipped with the (late availability) high performance braking system. As predicted by Allpar, this brings larger front rotors and large gains in front and rear caliper swept area (from 289 to 388 square inches in front, and from 291 to 296 in back; front rotors are going from 13.6 to 14.5 inches). Chrysler rates the V8 rear drive model at 0-60 in under 6 seconds, with up to 25 mpg highway mileage.

Other changes include a new fuel pump for durability, variable displacement air conditioner compressor, factory installed vinyl graphics, and optional rear park assistance.

1:33.85 isn't too slow.

A friend runs 1:30.x at Grattan in an '08 135i that has no catalytic converters, a gutted muffler, new downpipes, Dinan tune, KW v3 coilovers, R-comps, and very little of the factory interior still installed.

3 seconds is still a bit of time for a 2.1 mile road course, but 370hp in something that isn't light suggests they did a lot of work with the suspension and likely the ESC/TCS calibration on the police cruiser.

It's still not as fast as a Motorola !

Seems like they should be more focused on capacity, durability and operating cost when it comes to the selection of cruisers.

There is an awd Explorer fitted for PD use. Our department just picked up a handful of them to see how the commands like them. They are pretty damn nice and make sedans kinda pointless for police work. You can fit up to 4 people (3 comfortably) in the rear seat, there's gobs of room for gear in the back, and the front is easy to get in and out of without destroying your back.

Would love to if I had a car to use. Unfortunately I don't think my girlfriend will let me take her Mini to the track.

Grattan is a very fun track with a lot of different elements. The main straight is really long (used to be a drag strip), and then there are on and off camber turns, some blind corners, elevation changes, and plenty of bumps to watch out for as they may unsettle a car. Thankfully they tend to have a lot of run-off and it's a bit forgiving if you make a mistake and end up in the grass.

They're pretty badass, no doubt. The last time I got pulled over, it was by one of those.
