Default 2006 STI all performance fitment?

I have a 2006 STI with about 500awhp on stock wheels and bridgestone potenza's. I'm looking into buying a set of wheels right now and I was just wondering what size you would go with for strictly performance gains? wider than stock 17's or 18's, and what tire you would use. Also what wheels you recommend need to be lightweight.

Thanks

Tire Rack still sells some Potenza RE-92 in certain sizes... There's nothing quite like THOSE Potenzas... High Performance all season... yep.
225/45/17 is $286 a tire. That's how "special" those Potenza RE-92s are. (Short bus special.) Classic Potenzas... Probably will never be another tire quite like them.

In all seriousness though, I think when he said stock wheels and Potenzas he meant stock Potenzas... as in the RE070 that came stock on STI of that vintage.

17x9 with a 255. Beware of offsets and wheel designs. Some wheels you may think will fit, will not due to the spoke design. For instance a 17x9 +45 rpf1 needs an 18 mm spacer iirc to clear brembos.

You can get 5x100 Kosei K4R 17x8 +36 at Tire Rack if you tell them you have a BRZ. Within a couple ounces of RPF1 weight, but sits a little wider than the standard +45 17x8 RPF1. It's ~6mm inboard of a 17x9 +42. I wouldn't really want my wheels sticking out more than they are with these K4R 17x8 +36.

Brake clearance doesn't appear to be a problem. I put the 332x32 stoptech template into my wheels before mounting them. There was so much clearance I didn't even feel I needed to get a real accurate measurement. Eyeballing with parallax and such it was over 20mm clearance to the spokes at the narrowest point. I don't know how much wider Brembos are, but I doubt it's 20mm more than 332 stoptechs.

Fits fine no rub on my 02 sedan with 235/45/17 RE11A (-1.3F / -0.9R camber). I had already rolled the rear, but I'm not even sure that was necessary. Not a bad performance fitment for 5x100, and they're cheaper than RPF1. IMO they look better than RPF1 too. Those who don't have a 4.44 tranny should opt for a 235/40, which would give even more fender room.

8.5 wide would probably be better, but this appears to be a very unpopular width, since every wheel that comes along at 17x8.5 gets discontinued in short order.
