Default SSautochrome TMIC Install Question

For those who have installed these before, did you need to trim the coupling between the TMIC and throttlebody? I have read through the writeup on scoobymods and the comments here, but nobody mentioned this as a tight spot.

I have an '03 WRX and the effluent port from the intercooler is nearly touching the TB (fitting w/o the coupling to see how close it is).

Just thought I'd ask before I go hacking a coupling apart. Thanks for the input! This thing is a PITA...but it was cheap on ebay .

I didnt have to mod anything, but some have, go figure. It is not that bad just dry fit everything.
BTW I had the perrin coupler, but when I originally put my alky system in I used the stock coupler without cutting any off.

Good luck

For me, the stock coupler was too short (ie it barely made contact with both the TB and the IC). I bought a new coupler online and had to trim it to fit.

Don't be afraid to modify your parts, just make sure you measure twice and cut once...

I trimed mine 1/2 inch. The entire fit is very snug. Make sure you get it all lined up first and then cut it. Good luck.

I bought a 3" coupler, trimmed it at least 1/2". Once you get that coupler trimmed down right you should be able to get the TMIC to fit straight.

I also used a dremel to trim some from the driver-side IC bracket (black bracket piece) so that the IC would fit better.

Mine fit perfectly, no trimming or anything, just a little wiggling to slide it in.

Thanks for the replies, they help a lot. Looks like I'll be measuring and trimming...better get some extra pieces just in case.

Thanks again.

I installed one on a buddies 02 wagon. No trimming was involved but we're thinking of trimming the coupler a 1/2 inch plus or minus. The drivers side bracket lined up but not the passenger. Where did you guys get couplers from?

That's how mine is. The stock y-pipe doesn't line up at all when I'm test fitting it. The y-pipe is about 2 inches closer to the firewall than it needs to be. Hopefully a Samco y-pipe will be a bit easier.

There's all kinds of aftermarket manufacturers for hoses/couplers. Samco and Perrin make them as well as others. Check out ebay or the vendors section on Nasioc.

Yep, I am on it now. I want a red Perrin coupler for my own setup.

For the guys that have no fitment issues did you use the ic hoses supplied with the intercooler and do you purchase the Intercooler recently. I think they made some changes so it fit better. just wondering for a potential buyer.

My TMIC came with nothing but the PCV tubes, I used what I had.

Wups, I guess I should have looked at the link I've posted. I'll sell this for $30, not $50.

My buddies only came with bov. No hoses were inlcluded. He had a Hyperflow TMIC that had a problem. We used his old hoses without any major problems.
