Default Can you install a reverse lockout on a 5 speed?

Can you install a reverse lockout on a 5 speed? I want one on my 2003 wrx for practicality, and because they make the gap in between the boot and knob so much cleaner. I haven't seen it online anywhere, so I'm assuming it's either a whole trans swap or really hard to do.

you are doing a 6sp swap for the reverse ring?

just make a cool little thingy if you want looks. the 5sp has a lock out mechanism that stops you from shifting into reverse from 5th (if you are in 5th the shifter has to return to center in order to be able to go reverse). i dont get how having to pull a lockout would make anything more practical.

the only reason the 6sp has it is because it wold be easy to accidentally select the wrong gate where the 5 spd its not( toyota just makes it so you have to be a body builder to select reverse )

The lockout mechanism is internal to the transmission. You could find something that looks like a lockout ring and install it between the shift boot and the shift knob, but you cannot add a 6MT mechanical reverse lockout device to a 5MT.
