Default 02/03 vs. 04/05 WRX ECU and wiring connectors different? (pics)

I’m trying to verify the model year of ECU and Harness I have to accompany my USDM WRX drivetrain swap. Can somebody please confirm the following statement:

???? An 02/03 WRX harness will not plug into an 03/04 ECU and vice versa ????

I believe this to be true based on the following image detailing side-by-side, ECU connectors. 02/03 is on the left, and 04/05 is on the right. From this image, it appears that the connectors are physically different although the pin numbers remain the same. The connectors appear to be identically reversed (mirrored) between the two sets of years. This would lead me to believe an 02/03 harness will not plug into an 04/05 ECU and vice versa.

They just represented the plug from the other direction, they are the same.

Not questioning your information, but how certain are you of this?

If I hold my ECU connectors up from my wiring harness, and am looking at the side which plugs directly into the ECU (opposite wires), it looks identical to the diagram on the left.

it depends on what way you are looking at and more specifically which section i think. We were looking through an actual service manual and depending on what picture you looked at, sometimes the pins were reversed like that for the exact same harness plug.

thats just my observations.

Yes, I'm certain.
