This pic is amazing and is my new desktop background. I LOVE new STi's in red. And for some reason, I feel like the PA license plate is one that meshes the best with cars.

Why not see if you can find a used f2.8 for a good deal?

Could that be because you're from PA perhaps? I agree with you, but then I'm biased lol. I have always thought of getting the Wildlife plate with the Tiger on it. One of these days...

Yeah it does not make a difference.

BUT considering your in the bay, if you want a legit copy of anything shoot me a PM.
My GF's brother in law works for Adobe and can get legit copys of LR4 for $25 and the whole CS program for $140? its like 90% off.

Oh don't tell me that! I've been trying to decide for months! It was between the 2.8, the 4, and the new Tamron 2.8. I've been looking for a good deal on the 2.8 but they don't come down in price much. I don't think I can swing the extra thousand dollars at this point. I think if I really get into it I'll sell the 4 next year and then pick up a 2.8.

I plan on this being my motorsports lens so I don't know if I would really need the 2.8 in those situations considering it's all day time stuff. Even if it's cloudy I should be fine. If anyone does know of a good deal on a 2.8 please let me know though!

Yeah, I'm going to agree with King on this one. But, I do most of my shooting at f/4 and under. I had originally bought the 70-200 to take to the track, but I find myself using it for other things as well.

I looked on B&H (bear in mind that I don't know much about Canon lenses) but there seems to be versions of both the 4 and the 2.8 in the same price range? They even have a couple available in their used department, and the most expensive version of the 70-200 2.8 is 400$ off until Feb 2nd.

Yeah the 2.8 non IS version is around the same price as the 4 with IS. This 4 is sharper than the first version 2.8.

I had this lens. The genII one, not the newest one with OS. It was the cheapest way to get to 300mm f/2.8. The zoom was just a bonus. The quality was as sharp or sharper than my 70-200 f/2.8 (both wide open). The AF between the two was probably similar as well. They're both a step behind the primes like the 300mm f/4, 300mm f/2.8, 400mm f/2.8, etc.

If you want the length for sports/action and are on a budget, then I would highly consider the Canon 300mm f/4. The AF and sharpness are both better than the Sigma 120-300, but you lose the f/2.8. If you're shooting during the day that may be OK. Honestly the look between f/4 and f/2.8 is not that different. Here are some examples.

Canon 7D, Sigma 120-300 f/2.8
Shot at 300mm, Manual, f/4, ISO800-1600

i have a 70-200 2.8 VRII. Bought new from B&H and i thought id only use it at the track, but i use it for just about everything...its my go to lens everytime. Obviously if i need something wide i dont use it, but most other situations i do!

I've used every 70-200 from Canon except the new mkII version of the f/2.8 IS. The f/4 IS is the sharpest other than the new one, and it has the best IS other than the new one. It is a great lens and waaay lighter than the f/2.8 versions. I think you'll be very happy with it.
