The things that stops me from directly placing my n7 into the dash are these.
1. tethering (iphone:n7) certain apps don't recognize the Bluetooth tether mainly pandora radio app. which is my go to app for music in the car. it does play spotify radio, have not tried other apps yet. 2. Hot/Cold. I live in the northeast where temps can range inside the car from 120+ to -20 very easily. I dont think the n7 will be able to handle the extreme cold or heat. especially the heat. i love n7 and this setup.

awesome!
This is so cool. Never would've thought of that! I'm guessing you just have all your music stored on your nexus? Or are you tethering a connection of some sort and using google play? what if you need to take the tablet out? easily removable? this is great, kudos.

watchespn app ftw? Quote:
from my experience the app is not that accurate especially with the slow refresh rate. kind of cool to show people but i prefer real gauges. it uses a bluetooth obd2 adapter. Quote:

Do you leave the OBD reader plugged in ? I just got one, was gonna plug/unplug it everytime, but I don't want to ruin the connector.

wow even the Bluetooth OBD II dongle still takes that long? I was expecting delays but 300ms is a very long delay lol. I was hoping somethign in the double digit at the most.

i dont think you can charge and use a usb otg cable for external storage at the same time...its one or the other (unfortunatly). i have a 1TB external drive i would love to use along with this idea. ive been trying to do something like this for a long time. started out with an old laptop running android and a single din flip out VGA screen...was a messy install didnt look professional. love this idea, might start it in the spring. thanks for the thread

Awesome install. I literally just did the same thing with a Kindle Fire using tetherGPS. My HU is in the glovebox like yours, but I'm looking to mount it somewhere else in the near future as my glovebox handle has been broken for years and it takes two hands to open the glove box.
What are you using for profiles in tasker to save battery? Have you found it possible to control the on/off state of the kindle when charging? I lose about 6% battery overnight with the following settings, but I imagine that someone has come up with a better battery management profile. When my kindle sees power it turns on wifi and connects to my phones network, GPS, turns the screen on and volume up and opens maps. When my kindle loses power it turns the screen blackout to 7 seconds, turns off wifi, GPS and quits tetherGPS. |

Thinking about doing this for the upcoming nexus. Based on the dimensions of the original nexus, how much of the device is actually behind the bezel? I'm wondering because i'm trying to see if theres some way i can dremel out the bezel a bit to allow for the tablet to sit on a mount and be removable but still be relatively flush looking.

Any issues with GPS? I skimmed through the thread and didn't see, so if I missed, I apologize.
Just installed a 2013 Nexus 7 in my STi but it can't lock onto GPS.... Waiting for my JDM Double Din Bezel to show |

Inspired by this thread I went ahead and did the same thing with my nexus 7. One hiccup though. How do you turn the unit on? Did you wire up something to the power button inside the unit? Or did you use some sort of cheap mechanical solution to press the power button?
If you leave it on all the time it will eventually drain your car battery right? For those interested. I use the same hyco bar solution (its found in the plumbing section of home depot btw. 87 cents. (you only need 1 bar). Instead of plank of wood i used a piece of rubber drawer lining which is between the nexus and the hyco bars. and provides it from slipping around or damaging the back of the nexus if i ever want to remove it. Just can't figure out how to turn the nexus on. Is there a "power on when plugged in" setting in cyanogen mod perhaps? |

Some more info in later posts here http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2459432 I'm using a ROM that utilizes Android WiFi tether w/out it in my plan. Turns out the GPS issue is a Gen 2 Nexus 7 issue...still waiting for a fix. |

Has anyone verified a way to solve the charging issue? N7's are cheap enough that I'd be willing to leave one in the dash permanently provided it could stay charged indefinitely.
Nice install OP |
