Post Big brakes front. What in the rear?

I am looking into upgrading to either the Prodrive or Brembo Brake kit, and would also like to upgrade the rear brakes. Any suggestions for matching the rear brakes with either Front brake kit?

Thanks,

Tim

do you have an RS?

The legacy turbo rear vented brakes should bolt right on. I believe the front brakes do about 90% of the braking, so unless yours racing long courses you should be fine. In anycase I would think the vented legacy turbo brakes is about all the rear upgrade you need.

or you can get the 2POTs from the WRX, or even use the Brembo kit on the rear

I don't think I've EVER seen a Brembo kit for the rear of an Impreza. Where can I get them?

Take a loot at bbs.scoobynet.co.uk in thier brake susp. section and do a search for rear brakes and you should find a wealth of info.

Save you money, under hard breaking about 90% of it is done by the Fronts. As long as you got disks in da back your fine, there is really no need.

the computer actually decreases the amount of pressure going to the rears the harder you break. otherwise they would lock up. i figured if (more like when) i go with bigger breaks, i'll probably just put the stock fronts in the rear. the stock breaks, after all, do a damn fine job.

Why bother..

STI 4 pots on the fronts are all your gonna need on an RS ..

Even for HEAVY track days in my 22B the standard 4 pots are more than adequate.. ( covered me at Silverstone, Donnington and Knockhill)

PAD choice is the important issue ,well unless you wanna go all MAX POWER and show off ya big rotors

Just do not use Pagid Blue... they'll destroy a set of rotors in 4 - 6 months ( 3 track sessions)

Great Pads though

Well, I've already upgraded the tires (215/40-17 Toyo Proxes), so I want to get the new brakes. I just figured if I'm gong to do, I'm going to go all out. I figure I'll get the STi 4-pots for the rear.

Question

you don't need them....
look at your current set up...
at 40K i changed out my pads for the first time... the rears were still brand stinkin new... the rears don't do squat... so why put $600+ worth of brakes on them???

doesn't make sense...

rsquire called it. The Subaru 4 pot are more than ample. So why spend the money? Instead of throwing money away, why not redirect that cash to another mod?

sounds like mav1c just wants to waste money or talk like it.

Whatever. Do you REALLY think that the Brembo kit WON'T stop better that the 4-pots?

I don't want to waste money, so if it "sounds" that way, sorry.

If you stiffen the suspension and reduce some of the noise dive you might make more use of the rear brakes, depending on what ABS is doing with the proportioning.

Colin,

Thanks for the constructive comment, not some remark about wasting money.

That is exactly what I have done, so the rear brakes WILL be used more.

mav1c-

What are you doing with the car?

straight racing, "street/racing", street or what?

Plus I have heard of problems with brembos down the line in street apps. Not to mention overkill.

Sometimes Brembos and other upgrade kits actually work worse than stock, too... You need to have the caliper power to back up the upgrade...

Plan on Street and race apps for the car. Probably start racing in the Spring.

Yeah, I've heard of the kits actually working worse, but that's usually if you JUST get the rotors, I plan on geting EVERYTHING, calipers, rotors, pads, lines, performance brake fluid, etc.

I HATE to reiterate but 4 pots = more than enough stopping power. Brembo's = over kill.

please, somebody back me up.

Subaru 4POTs = heavy ass cast iron
Brembo, Wilwood, etc = aluminum

I'd get the Wilwood dynalite setup from Lachute Subaru.

Weight is relative? What do you mean?

Lighte brakes = less unsprung weight = better braking + handling.

20 pounds lighter to be exact.

Did I mention that thanks to the Canadian dollar it's cheaper too?

No... I just did a little research and every now and then attempt to educate people that there is an alternative to the Subaru 4POTs.
