Question How do I make ram air?

I am going to be buying a imprez and thought it would be cool to make a ram air system like the one on the transam. Is there anyway I can make my own box so rain doesn't get on it. Any ideas how to make it.
Thanks

Don't spend too much time on this. If you want any real effect from ram air you have to go above about 85 mph since dynamic pressure is not high enough below that to significantly increase manifold air pressure.

If you REALLY want true ram-air.....get a turbo

Also the problem with having your intake at the hood scoop on our cars is that it leaves your intake track too short and you end up losing a good amount of low end. Trust me on this, I have done it. You can ask Imprezer about his test with the filter that close to the throttle body too.

Time for a what-if that's been on my mind for awhile.... What if you were to take fiberglass or some other easily had body material and extended the IC scoop all the way to the very front leading edge of the hood, leaving it perhaps one inch high by ten or twelve inches wide. Way out on the edge like that (much like the Legacy stock intake that gets air right at the edge of hood and grill) you would get massive amounts of air, caught as it is forced over the car. With an intake this long and narrow, the water problem would be mostly cured, plus you get the long smooth passage neccessary to reduce turbulent airflow. Just a VERY rought vis. aid I threw toghther five minutes ago to get the point across (that and I LOVE this paint color)

Again, I know the picture is bad, but I think the idea may even be a sound one. Either that, or it's because I'm REALLY tired and need sleep NOW!!! You can use it as a ram-air setup for N/A or to get the huge amounts of high-pressure air off of the front of the car for a turbo's IC. Thoughts anyone?

No the pic doesn't look bad at all... Maybe someone out there with a decent amount of fiberglass experience could pull it off..
Who knows, the filter could be adapted to pass air diagnally (sp?) then into the smaller pipe to make to bend into the intake...

Ok who has the experience now???

Just remove the passenger headlight houseing, then build a cold air box around the aftermarket filter!

Ive seen pics were people have turned there intake maifold around so as the front mount IC had a staighter path. Could you use this process and graft the TA Ram Air to it. Use the TA Ram Air Filter Box and Underhood stuff with our scoop. Just a thought? My neighbor has a TA I will tak a good look at everyhting and see if that would work Ill let you know
