Default phase 1 to phase 2 swap

I have asked this question on the Engine Swap forum http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...71#post8487871 but they referred me here.

I have pulled my phase 1 2.5 DOHC engine from my 97 Legacy as I had oil in the coolant after an overheat-guess what that means. Anyway, I have sat in my drive a phase 2 SOHC with 10K miles on it from a 2002 Legacy auto that I would love to drop right in.

Mechanically it's a piece of cake but electrically it looks like a nightmare! I researched this forum before I bought this new motor and it seemed that all I needed to do was swap a few sensors in from a 1.8 engine but now it seems that the two harnesses are never going to get together and some of the vacuum hoses seem quite different. I am skeptical that this can be done but know that "2.5GT" did it a few years ago (maybe he used an older phase 2) so I wonder how he got round the harness plug issue.
