Default WIN 8 Romraider editor, logger, ECUflash

I have been using a laptop in my car since I had a UTEC for logging and tuning. With the improvements of Windows 8 with touchscreens, I decided to buy a Windows 8 tablet for logging and tuning.

MUST BE WINDOWS NOT RT - ARM infrastructure will not work as far as I know.

I was able to get romraider, the ecuflash software and tactrix drivers installed on windows 8 (non RT) without a problem. I ran into issues with the logger, and the map editing in romraider.

I was able to extract/flash my map with ECUflash with no problem oddly enough.

I am using an ASUS vivotab smart, with windows 8 home, and a USB OTG adapter. I have a Tactrix 2.0 cable. I purchased the OTG cable from cellphoneshop (http://wwvv.cellphoneshop.net/microb.html).

I recommend the following settings:
Romraider 0.5.6 RC 6 - 5.7 wouldnt work for me.
Turn off UAC
Turn off windows 8 firewall, Domain policy included (its under the advanced settings in windows firewall, then windows firewall properties, and turn it off under all tabs: Domain, Private, Public)
Turn off windows 8 Defender.
I have no current anti-virus, as the tablet isnt used for anything but logging/tuning currently.

Set both programs to run as administrator. The logger and the editor

Uninstall all Java previous versions, and install (x86) JSE runtime (offline) 7u45.

Restart the computer and plug in the Tactrix to the computer, but dont connect it to the car. Make sure that the OTG is allowing the Tactrix to be recognized and installed. It should show up in your devices in CP at the bottom as Vehicle interface. If not, you have a bad tactrix, or cable.

Open your favorite map, and see it will with populate tables. If not, you may try to run compatibility troubleshooting, but you should be ok. I mess with this for some time before I disable more in the control panel, so I dont think in the end, it was how I got it to work.

If you have a full USB port, it still may require a USB to USB OTG adapter. I have a micro port, so an adapter was required regardless. A regular adapter will not work...Must be OTG. It changes how the computer hosts the USB.

I have not tried to split the USB into two ports to allow for logging of AFR, but I have a Gauge on the pillar that I can monitor. I don't believe this will work, because of the comm port conficts that Windows likes to supply us with. I also have the settings in the Romraider logger set to fast polling, auto refresh of the port and defogger logging enable.

This is for a 2002 WRX, standard Rom 160kb.

Hope you can get yours running. Just figured Id post up my settings and the tablet I was using. (http://wvvw.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...G&Q=&A=details)

I'm glad it works in 8.1. Everything that I needed seemed to break when I tried it on my laptop so I went dual boot ubuntu and windows 7.

To clarify, if a device only has 1 microusb port and I want to log AFR as well as from a tactrix or similar cable then I'm out of luck?

You will be better off running a tactrix into a USB hub, and using a ftdi serial cable running through the hub as well. I use a belkin without external power. Do not use a standard store bought pl 2303 (prolific) serial because they absolutely suck. Everyone using a serial adapter should be using ftdi honestly. They work flawlessly. This will allow you to log both tactrix and wideband inputs. It works for me on my tablet and laptop with windows 7 & 8. Windows 8 RT will not work well if at all. Message me if you need help.

You didn't say Asus tablet. You said tablet. I know that Asus makes a windows RT platform tablet. There are two versions of windows. RT and full version windows 8. 8.1 is just like a service pack to windows 8. RT I believe lacks the .net framework and such to provide support for logging. I'm not a computer tech pro, but I think that's the reason.
