Will it buff out?
Hey guys,
Unfortunately I got a tiny scrape from another car in NYC. I'm not sure what I should do with it. I am not one to detail myself, so I will take it somewhere to get done. My question is should I take it to a detailing place and show them and see if they can get it out? Should I take it to Subaru and have them try to fix it? Another body shop? I'm hoping it's simple and cheap, but I just got the car in September, so I want it fixed well. Here is the picture: As you can see there's a couple lines, as well as a colored scratch on the door guard. Thanks ahead of time!

Please keep in mind that without being there in person, I cannot say for sure if it can be fixed outside a body shop. It looks like it could possibly be fixed with a 1 or 2 step compounding/polish. At the very least it should be able to be diminished to where it's only visible within 3 ft. If there's color transfer on the paint, there's no way to answer until the contaminant paint is removed. For the visible scratches a really rough guideline is if you pour water on the scratches and they disappear they can generally be removed or diminished to where you won't notice.
Your best bet is to take it to a reputable detailer and asking. No detailer worth their salt will give you a straight answer without seeing it in person. A subaru dealer will likely refer you to a body shop, don't let them try to polish it. |

I got some of those from having a dog hit me on the street, goes from all the way from passenger fender to back passenger fender.
Also have some from where wolves bit my bumper; some are straight gouges, some are scratches. I'm scared of compounding and it not being enough, and that's gonna hurt me deep inside. I'd take it to get paint correction done if it's financially viable. |

This is the answer I was looking for. Thank you very much for the detail and advice. As far as paint correction, that should be done at a reputable body shop?Subaru does literally zero body work themselves correct? Thanks again guys -Dylan |

Take it to a reputable detailer for paint correction, not a body shop, and see what they can do. I wouldn't trust a Subaru dealer to detail your car, most dealers will hire whoever is willing to working for min wage and hand them a bunch of dirty cotton rags and a rotary polisher without any training, you would prefer the scratches to that end result. If you want it done right, take it to a reputable detailer, not the cheapest. They will tell you what you can expect as the result or if you need to go to the body shop.

Thanks again. I will be taking it to a reputable retailer in my area and hope they can fix it. I think that they will be able to, based on what you’re saying and looking at it, it’s not too bad. Appreciate the help -Dylan |

Looking at the picture I think you can get most of it out (80%) but it looks like the scratch went though the clear so will not be 100%.
There are some touchup places that can do spot repairs who are very good. If you aren't satisfied with your detailer, you may want to check with your local dealer on places that do touch ups on used cars. |
