Paint protection for the rainy Pacific NW
The Big Gray Lid (aka Winter) is only a few months away here, and I want some advice on a synthetic wax to protect the paint for as long as possible. I figure that anything with carnauba in it won't withstand the elements for as long as I need. I don't have an indoor garage and waxing will probably be impossible during the Nov, Dec, Jan, time frame. I'm planning on clay barring (don't want to seal-in any crap) before the Winter Wax Job but is there anything else I should be doing?

fogdor, there are many options. But the esiest of these would be Optimum opti-seal. By far the simplest, and IMO one of the best. Looks great and will last a long time. Can use it as a base or a topper with other waxes/sealants. Can't go wrong with this one.

I'm in the cold, grimy NE... so I have similar concerns. I don't want to be waxing out in 20-degree weather... but what's wrong with carnauba as a sealant?

I'm here in the NW as well as just got done doing a clay/polish/sealant/wax on my wrx and the wife's legacy.
I use Klasse polish and sealant w/ pinnacle wax. If you are going for long term protection you are going to want to use a sealant as most waxes won't offer the long term protection you need. Certain sealants like the one offered by Klasse can also be layered...so two coats applied properly would provide excellent protection. |

Klasse stuff is good. Synthetic sealeants can last 6-12 months depending on layers, or if you use other wax over it, etc.
You could do this: Clay bar Klasse All In One (Polish/cleaner/other) Klasse Sealant (for the long protection) Carnuba wax (for looks plus an extra layer) Won't take that long. And if you wash the car every week or two you'll be more than okay. |

Collinite... Pick up either 476 or 845IW. I haven't found anything to last as long as either. Klasse doesn't impress me and I really do like Optiseal, but it won't cut it for a northeast winter.

Collinite over Klasse AIO (1 or 2 coats) makes for a great combo that really does last for a long time. It also cleans up very well with minimal effort, good for cars that are parked outside.
