Default Registration Open for October 13-14 NASA event.

Sign up for HPDE sessions before they fill up. They're also offerring Hyper Drives, so if you want to just get your feet wet and see what all this HPDE stuff is about, it's a great time to try.

I signed up for Group 2, but might be ready to move to 3. I'll see what my instructor has to say after this weekend.

We actually ARE sponsoring it again this year. Sorry, the open house took up all my attention. I'll have a post up about this soon.

is anyone doing the the hyperfest hyperdrive. I have been thinking about doing this as my first track event but the web page has me a little confused. Do I need a window net just to do the hyper drive or is that just for the actual races. I am also guessing I need a helmet for this event.

I'll be there for HPDE 1 as my second weekend with NASA. Summit looks like a blast. Hoping for the same luck as last time and get another great instructor.

You do not need a window net. That's just for racers. You will need a helmet.

and not just a DOT helmet, it has to have a Snell rating. M95 or SA95 and newer, I believe is acceptable. The sight should have the specifics.

I'm pretty sure NASA has some open faced helmets available at the track.. When I went I ended up just borrowing one from a friend until I purchased my own. Hopefully somebody that knows for sure will chime in.

If you plan on doing track days and/or autocross in the future, buy one. And try to get a SA05 so it will be good for a while.

I think most require SA00 or higher now.

yes, nasa has a few, but you might want to email them to make sure you can get one. I'd highly advise trying a few one before you buy one though.

I might be trying to get into doing track events like this. Is this a good beginner event or do i need to go to a local autocross first to get my feet wet?

Mid-A NASA > any other HPDE in the mid A

I will probably be there racing Honda Challenge 4, blue/red #111 2nd gen. Integra.

The only real "upgrades" you need to have a good track weekend are brake pads and fluid. You won't need a full-on race pad for your first few weekends anyways.

Yeah I was not planning on trying to be cheap on the helmet .I asked if they rented so I could save some money to get what ever helmet fits right. Does anyone know of a good place to buy helemts in the richmond area. So far the best I have found is OG racing but that is a little bit of a drive.

OG is worth the trip IMO. They're good guys and being able to try the helmet on first is VERY important. Come up, go to OG, visit Mach V, shop at potomac Mills, etc. Make a little day trip out of it.

Hyperdrives ARE the kind of events that gets your feet wet. I can come find you and be your ride-along instructor if you like.

Gonz.
I'm going to be retiring my WRX from track duty, again.

I did this last year when I bought an old 1990 Miata; however, after the first event I realized 116 HP didn't cut it for me on the track. It's not much fun when others hold you up through turns and then smoke you on the straights only to hold you up in the turns again for 20 minutes.

After trying for six or seven months, I was finally able to get rid of the Miata. I bought a 95 Mustang GT to replace it, so that's the car I plan to be driving at this event.

It will be my first time in Group 3 and my goal was to get a dedicated ( CHEAP) track/weekend car by the time I got to 3. I've seen too many wrecks out there in group 3 to keep taking the WRX.

by the way, looks like all HPDE groups are now on "waiting list"
