Amp choices
So, my amp seems to have died...oh well.
I've got Focal components up front, some Boston composites as rear fill (though they've been disconnected, and I don't think I need them in a coupe), and 2 8" woofers in the rear side panels. Looking at buying a used JL 300/4 for about $150 and then finding a JL 250/1 to run the subs. Or I could spend $300 and get a brand new, in box JL 600/4. Can the 600/4 run the fronts and the subs without the subs being too much louder than the fronts? I really only use the subs as low end fill and don't want super loud bass. Would it be smarter to go with 2 separate amps or something that has a dedicated sub channel? Thanks for any input.

For 300 $ check out one of the Kenwood 5ch amps..
My next 300 $ will likely land me one.. hard to pass based on spec, size and price.. |

I'm likely going to stick with my plan to go JL, unless there is something in the $200-$225 range new that'll do what I want. But I'd rather have the higher end, used JL stuff than new stuff that's just "OK". Do you have any thoughts on the JL options I asked about? I do appreciate your input, always very helpful. |

Check out the Alpine PDX 9V, mine came with a birth certificate stating 138X4 and 586X1 instead of the advertised 100X4 and 500X1 for $433 shipped. Best Bang for the buck amp I could find. I was looking at the JL HD700/5 but it just doesn't have the juice.

Anyways, I bought an Arc Audio amp that should give me 200w RMS/channel up front, which will be more than enough. Heart wasn't set on JL, but I wanted input on it. |
