Default McKinnon's Functional WRX Build

Well my original plans for a wrx were lowering it with the perfect fitment for the track and blah blah blah.

Well after cracking a front bumper and even struggling to putt around town or offroad I decided that ill go a different route than most y'all on here.

So my plan that I am working towards now is to make a functional, offroad capable, rough road capable wrx.

How it sits now 4-29-14:

Spring Bash 2014 by McKinnon99879, on Flickr

Fresh Meet Spring Bash 2014 by McKinnon99879, on Flickr

Done already:
Invidia n1 duals
rally armor flaps
team dynamics wheels and general grabbers tires
roofracks
Tinted windows
Taillight overlays and headlight housings painted
Curt Hitch and trailer wiring

Plans are:
PIAA fogs mounted on either of the rally innovations light bars
the light bar for said lights
Either ksport gravel spec suspension or feal gravel suspension to lift the car about 2 inches and increase offroad ability.
Then by then hopefully the warranty will be done and I can do engine mods which I haven't bothered to tease myself with because I want to keep my warranty for now.

Nice hatch, it's refreshing to see someone go in a bit of a different direction with one of these. I'm a big fan of the burnt tips on the N1, once I scrape together some money I may get one of my own. Time to post some off-road pics!

Looks great man!!!! I'm always a little sad I went with a track focused car in comparison with what these cars were made to do. Just glad to see something original with some good rally inspiration!!! Keep it up!

Thanks a lot man! I appreciate that. Trust me though. If there was more in terms of tracks and motorsport around here in south jersey I may have went the other way. All we have is drag strips. Which I might pick up a fox body for. Hehe

Haha im glad I could be of some inspiration! I just ripped around in the dirt a bit and found that these tires grip really well, they make you have to push the car harder to whip it out! Thats both good and bad... hahah it handles random dips and roots and **** very well though. Cant wait to get some better suspension on it

Good luck. I think you are going the correct way with that but needs to be lifted about 3 inches to be functional. Im not raining on your parade but i completely dispise my 13 wrx. I bought in 2012 and disliked it from the second week.. rattles, fit and finish is horrible, and i can keep going. Thats why it sits in the driveway under a cover, with 8300 miles on it. I like driving my 92 acclaim better. This is coming from someone who has owned almost every subaru and was a subaru mechanic for years.
I would definately recommend you put that thing high as you can. That front bumper will brake off in sections with the slightest tap. I would suggest buying one of those gorilla things.
Thats why im trading it in and never buying a new subaru ever again

Yeah I hear ya on a lot of that. I am getting a terrible squeak from the hatch right now. Idk what it is. Its the first noise to actually piss me off haha But I do love the car. I did crack the bumper already too. But thats why I am trying to make it functional. I'm definitely not done with it. I do plan on getting a front bar and lifting it too. It's a fun project. I didn't buy it with the intention of it being a super quiet smooth ride so it's all good. Its been my dream car since it first came out so ill make it work!! Haha

Good choice, warranty is important as long as it's valid--looking forward to your engine mod.

Np, the car looks on point. I'm in the market for a used T3i myself, great lineup of cameras. Good luck!
