The best thing you can do for yourself is read the "Intake and Exhaust" stickies in the Naturally Aspirated forum. That will answer a lot of your questions.

I don't know what intake will work best for an 06-07. I have an 09, and nothing works well except the hybrid and/or a panel filter.

NA Subarus will never be powerful cars, so if you ask me, your money will get you far more performance bang for the buck if you dump it into your suspension.

suspensions are expensive. that would make it handle better but for speed and horsepower like you said intake. and if i find one cheap should i do it? or what should i look for if i do?

Honestly, you're better off keeping your money in your pocket. I guarantee you won't notice any difference in the performance with NA bolt ons. It might sound harsh, but I'll bet you'll learn that lesson on your own if you go and spend a lot of money in a car, with mods that aren't going to be worth it.

Better yet, spend the money on maintenance, filters, brake fluid, oil, tranny oil, and make sure your stock suspension is in good shape, and the rubber bushings are solid. I see it too many times that people start moding a car that needs that kind of stuff, especially heavy suspension mods, and it's a waste, when the control arm bushings are toast, for example.

You bought yourself a nice daily driver. Learn how to properly detail the car (read "the new world according to meguiars") and take good care of it. You'll get more satisfaction out of things like that, than anything else you could do to an NA.

Agreed that it's pointless to do performance mods when there are basic maintenance issues that need to be addressed.

That said, assuming that the car is well maintained, mild upgrades like tires, brake pads, SS brake lines, possibly springs and sways, and the like can go a long way towards making a nice DD a more fun DD. A few cosmentic mods to personalize it bit more can be fun as well.

I have the same impreza as you. I have a full exhaust on mine. Uel Borla header, Rallisport hi flo cat, greddy ti-c catback. It's sounds amazing but personally I wouldn't even bother unless you have a wrx. I got the exhaust last summer. During the winter I got a check engine light and it hasn't went away since. I put a spacer in the after cat o2 sensor but the light came back. The code is a p0240. Catalytic efficiency below threshold. Which means exhaust. So if I was you I would just get a nice set of h&r coilovers, a nice set of rota wheels and you will be happy as a pig in *****.

Suspension.

And wtf is a chip? 'Chips' are fake. There is engine management tuning and ECUs, but those are like $400+... not really worth it for just an intake. Maybe like intake, full exhaust, cams, etc...

Don't waste your money on going fast in a straight line. NA engines aren't for that. Suspension, wheels, tires, brakes.. and maybe an exhaust for sound.

Take your car to a tuner, and that light will go away

I would say go nuts. Skip the chip (useless). Pull out the interior, the A/C and power steering. NOW we're talking. Also, replace all the windows with lighter racing glass. Replace hood and trunk with carbon fiber. Get the whole thing nice and light and you'll be flying around town. BAZAM!

Don't so something just to do something. Especially when it's not going to do anything for you.

Performance chip? you mean somethin to flash tune your car. Rallitek.com sells a Cobb accessport that helps you tweek settings of your ECU to your liking, more mods you have more you can do with the accessport
