It is a PITA but it's rewarding. Recently when I go to regional car meets with other people doing the same thing, we spend more time comparing tradecraft and ideas than looking at the rest of the meet. |

I was working on cleaning up the bay in my 07 wrx wagon...until I hit a deer, totaling both the car and the deer. Now I'm fiddling with my Miata a bit.
The holes in the firewall are for braces, much like the ones that are already there. The tunnel is widened to clear an ls1 & t56. With regard to shaving bays, I guess the only unique thing here is the relocation of the wiper motor. Still have to clean this up a bit. |

That's just a mock up. But I did throw the intercooler brackets on and snuggly bolted it all down to make sure everything was gonna fit. Plus I was anxious to see what it was gonna look like . Everything fit fine though and the hood closed perfect with out issues. I was going to get the 3mm ones too then I emailed Grimmspeed and asked them and they said that there wouldn't be a problem so I took my chances.

Figured I'd share some of my progress. Just started this as a side project for the winter.
Everything out. Possible fuse box location. |

Hey guys. Engine shaving newbie here just looking for some tips from those more experienced than i am (read everyone). I've got an old STI and the engine bay is in need of a little brightening up. Right now it just looks like a crowded mess of crap and i just don't know where to start.
I know shaving is quite an undertaking, but I've got to start somewhere and it would be great to know a little before i get going on a project that could take me a very long time. I've tried my best to start small and break it down to manageable bits so please tell me what you think of my plan. Tips and criticisms are welcome Remove/clean/paint intake manifold and alternator Remove turbo chimney and replace with heat shield Remove/relocate boost control solenoid -I plan on mounting my new MBC in the same place as the old BCS but I hear the old BCS needs to be reatined to avoid throwing a CEL. Is this true and if so, where can I put it so I no longer see it Clean/paint rad mounts -I'm not sure how these come off. It appears to be bolts on the chassis side, but pins or something on the rad side. How do i take these off Relocate throttle cable -Can i melt the cable insulation if it ends up touching either the block or the intake manifold or is there a safer way to route it Tuck in as many hoses as i can -What kind of hose can i use if i just want to make my own new lines to make it easier to tuck them away so i don't see them anymore Here's a shot of my bay to give you a general idea of what im dealing with |

^ If I do end up putting it there, I am going to shave the vents as well. And probably some weather proofing. I'm trying to keep my harness extending to a minimum.

Also, hit up McMaster Carr or a similar vendor and order huge bags of stainless bolts in M6 and M8 sizes with washers and in various lengths. They are WAY cheaper than you'd think. For 50 to 100 bucks you can replace every single bolt that's visible in the bay. It makes a huge difference. Takes a bit of planning, but it's cheaper and less ricey than those dress up kits they sell. I've done my hood bolts, fender bolts and everything else in there. Looks great. |

Here's my tuck and semi shave until tax time. Then the motor is coming out for the full shave. Any tips on the abs delete. Was gonna do chase bay but keep hearing bad things. What do you guys do. |

The green silicone on that car is incredible. That's my idea of cleaned up. Strightened and sorted while still being functional. Good work; that's what I'm shooting for.

and yeah, there's a couple issues with the chase bays delete. just get a wilwood brake proportioning valve, and run the lines yourself. it's pretty simple. |

How are those Fuku Works hoses? I came across them the other day but hadn't heard anything about them.

Thats what I was shooting for too. But seeing that my car is going to see winter driving I decided to hold off on the relocation and I just stuck it back in the bay. I couldn't find a way to mount it under my headlight and feel 100% that it was going to stay dry. Better safe then sorry Cool idea though! looking forward to see it done,

Thanks guys. The fuku couplers are awesome. I've got the couplers, rad hoses and inlet and all are very well made and all fit perfect. The quality is top notch. They are double the thickness of eBay ones and are all really stiff. The inlet should hold high power with no collapsing like eBay ones. They currently sell the green, blue and black and are all snake skin looking. Also they will be dropping white and purple soon as well. Highly recommend them.

Here is my contribution. There are a lot of wires and hoses that can be relocated, but this will do for now. Eventually Ill do a full tuck and get rid abs, and get rid of power steering. The cold air intake is also only there to run the stock ECU for inspection. When the stand alone is in its a shorty pipe w/ 4 inch diameter. Oh did I mention its a 2.61l, sleeve, stroked, cammed, and ported motor . Was an 05 wrx now its a hybrid with sti drivetrain swap. |

My bay is coming along, working on the engine harness right now. Sheet metal sitting in the garage waiting to be cut :-)
