Default 95-99 legacy's top Speed ???

Just wonderin what the top speed is.

I have read in some places that it's limited 110mph and in others 112mph if this is true then I answer my own question?

I personally have had my Legacy Outback (99) up to 115 tailing a beemer on an open stretch of highway between Tuscon and Phoenix. It felt like it had more but I didn't hit any governor.

i have hit 116 in PA on a road trip on a 98, i think it could have gone to about 120 or 125 max.

I've had mine past 120mph. I'd say 123-125, somewhere in that range. There may have been just a wee bit more left, but I decided that was enough. I was probably pretty close to the limit.

Based on the RPMs I saw, a 5-speed will do about 130mph stock, and that's all she wrote. With the added power I have now I've gotten up to about 133mph, and there may have been more left if I had had more straightaway.

Yeah, I was thinking there was some combination that was governed to 112mph. Maybe all the 2.2's, or maybe all the automatics, or maybe all the 2.2 automatic's. I can never remember.

Mine's a '98 2.5GT 5 spd, BTW. Top speed limited only by lack of horsepower to overcome lack of aerodynamics!

I've pushed my babe to about 125-128/mph on the freeway. But before all you guys say I'm B-S'ing, I don't know exactly why, But I did do a 2.5 JDM transplant, so for what ever reason I think that the USDM-E.C.M. doesn't govern the JDM engine the same.

I prefer acceleration, braking and cornering when judging a car. Top speed just gets you tickets.

Post this is mine

On a challenge I got my '95 to 130mph with a good 400rpm left to go, and that was before any of the mods I have put on itm I'm not sure if it has a different ECU though, I have some idea that there is a different one but I'm not sure.

It is quite possible that some are limited and some are not. Usually the limiters are in place to keep you from going above the speed rating on the OE tires. The GTs would have RE-92s, an H-rated (130 mph) tire. So you may not even be able to hit the limiter, if it exists. But cars that were not GTs, with 14 or 15 inch wheels, most likely did not get H-rated rubber. And 112 mph corresponds with an S-rated tire. So the theory is plausible anyway.

Maybe only the GT Limited is limited?

I haven't had mine on the car in years, so I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the Subaru OEM RE92s are actually V-rated.

Regardless, a stock 2.5GT is aerodynamically limited to right around 130mph. That's based on personal experience in both a '97 2.5GT and a '99 2.5GT, so I think that's a pretty safe claim.

Yeah, my 97 OB AT hits the limiter *hard* at 112, and it still wants to pull

Mine, from a WRX, are H-rated for sure. It would appear that all of them are. But I guess GTs are not limited to that if they can do 136

Talking Approx. 135

But since the speedo stops at 120, that's just an approximation.

My L has the 140 mph speedo and has hit the 120 mark on it. With the upsized tires and rims it calculates out to 126mph. But like was said earlier, at that pointmy pedal was still floored and the car had no balls to push any harder, the aerodynamics at that speed play a big part in how much faster you will go. Figure this though, at 70 mph, I tach about 2700 rpm. Translate in a 6200 rpm rev limiter and you have 160.7 mph. Is it gonna ever happen in a 95 legacy L? Prolly not. But thats what it "should" do.

I hit 130mph on I-5 before fuel cut. My GPS was showing 127mph though. I imagine the 3mph difference was from speedo error.

Anyone know about top speed on a '94 L? I've gotten mine to about 110 once with no mods besides a K&N air filter.
