need some help :
I have Impreza 2006 , 2.0L , non turbo , from middle east . I just changed my orignal radio to an after-market ,, AVH-2350DVD I read your thread but I'm not sure if I saw my model > I have a probelm with an antenna " remote on " thing . my car does not have antenna or "L" box in the trunk , there is only black box and i'm not sure if it's the antenna amp . the signal very weak and I thought the problem was in my after-market radio. so I need some help to fix it . my connection wire is 14-pin this is a picture of it . and there is 2-pin connection and I don't know what it is ? or what's for ? I replaced my after-market radio from stereo shop.

If you bought an adapter harness you need to power up the blue wire from that. According to my diagrams Pin 14 White is what powers the antenna amplifier if you have it.... Maybe you just need a new antenna?
As for that box, I can't find that in any of the radio diagrams and it does not look like any of the antenna amplifiers I've ever seen for subaru. That may be apart of the defroster circuit or lighting. |

I've got a 2011 wrx ltd non-nav stock stereo. Couple of days ago it started sporadically getting a 'check usb device' error on the head unit. Now it always displays the error and the ipod never works in the car. I can use other inputs (radio, etc.) just fine. My older nano also works. The ipod that fails is a 2g 160 gb classic with version 2.0.4. It only contains ~3500 songs. I've hooked it up to my xbox and the xbox can read it just fine. Any ideas?

The CP635U1 (shown in that thread) uses CAN bus and does not have the new leads for 'bright' mode and VSS, so that one is a good choice. The CM631UD (Clarion PF-3391A-A, Subaru 86201FJ630, Rear MR63) dropped CAN and has the 'bright' signal and VSS. Your SWCs would work, but it would be a good idea not to connect your CAN wires to that HU. |

What is 'bright' mode? Am I correct in assuming the CP635U1 uses the CAN bus data to perform speed sensitive volume functions, just curious? Would the CP635U1 be able to sense a manual transmission being put in reverse in the event I want to hack in a backup camera? |

I have a question:
I put in my 2011 WRX a Kenwood KDC-HD942U with the Axxis SWC. I soldered all the Axxis wires per the manual and everything works fine. My question is this: sometimes my source input will change automatically or a track will skip automatically. I thought I had a loose wire somewhere but i recently checked and re-checked everything. It's all hooked up right and connected well. What would cause this? |

Normally, the radio's display (along with other parts of the instrument panel) are dimmed when you turn on the headlights ('night dimness'). But when you turn the illumination dimmer wheel all the way up, the illumination control module cancels that dimming. That is 'bright' mode. Some older models had a separate button to activate that.
Some of the 2012 (and newer) models have that signal on one of the factory radio harnesses. Cars with the CM631UD have that on pin 11 of the 20-pin power/speaker harness. Quote:

Metra is currently up to version 2.28 (for older hardware) and 3.08 (for newer hardware). 2.26/3.06 (released 2/20/2012) fixed an issue with the HU receiving anomalous commands from the ASWC. Sounds like yours is older. I have Metra's special USB-CAB programming cables available. E-mail me for details (see my profile page here). |

I don't like the idea of the lockout, but the HD radio and more detailed display along with keeping all the SWC functionality may be a reasonable compromise for me if I find a used CP635U1 at a fair price. A backup camera hack will have to wait a while. My neck still works, I'm not that old or lazy... yet. |

2007-2008 Forester (model "C-123" printed on front, Clarion models PF-2851B-A and PF-2851B-B). Search for the various threads/posts that discuss connecting to the aux socket on the back (several are in this same FAQ thread). |

Hi all. Just a quick question to ask the gurus on this thread. I found an OEM navigation unit from a 2011 STi, and I'm wondering if I would be able to drop it into my 2012 WRX. Would this be a pretty easy thing to do, or would I lose bluetooth and steering wheel controls? I've been doing lots of research, but I have been finding mixed answers. Thanks for the help.

Also see this for answers about SWCs, BT, USB, etc. (2012 WRX is essentially the same as 2011 WRX). If your OEM HU is the model CZ624U1 (printed on the front), your factory radio harness still has the two CAN bus wires. So the Navi's car performance functions should still work (some markets outside North America still offer that OEM Kenwood Navi on 2012 WRX and STI, so I don't think there would be any issues). |

Hey guys,
I have a 05 STI with the stock head unit in it. My question is; does the 05 headunit have AUX? I'm thinking of getting a Parrot unit to utilize bluetooth and playing music off my iPhone. I've never taken out the head unit before and I remember that the 06-07 had an AUX in the back of the headunit but I'm not sure if the 05 does too. thanks in advance. |

If it doesn't have a button on the front labeled "AUX" then no aux input on the back.
You can search for various hacks to connect an aux device (e.g., "Jazzy" mod). Or switch to a newer HU (perhaps even aftermarket, for better sound and more features). |

Stupid Kicker Subwoofer...
Ok - I've been searching the threads and have probably missed it. I just picked up a 2012 STI after my 04 WRX had served faithfully for years. I love the car but I'm too old to enjoy the kicker subwoofer in it. Can I just unplug it with no ill effects (besides the people next to me in traffic staring as they get the bass from NPR?)

The Kicker sub's harness includes high-pass filters for the outputs going to the main speakers. So if you simply disconnect the sub in the trunk, the T-harness will still be blocking bass from going to your main speakers. You don't have to de-install the harness, just unplug it and connect the car's factory radio harness directly to your OEM HU (as it was before the sub was added). You can download the installation instructions from Subaru's site. See the link in post 1 of my 'Subaru stock HU info' thread. See this thread for pictures and more information about the Kicker sub: New 2011 11" Trunk Mounted Subwoofer |

Thanks, That's what I needed to know! I appreciate it.
I'm a little happier at least that I didn't pay for it after reviewing that thread! |
