I have been getting some parts off a 2008 Forester Sport 2.5X for my 2005 LL Bean. I got the C123 radio and AUX pod.

The 2008 had the rear sub woofer in the cargo area. I got that but found out I forget the metal panel the speaker mounts to. I have to go back for that.

My 2005 had the subwoofer wires in the 8 pin connector. But would there be a connector in the cargo side of my 2005 like in the 2008 which had the subwoofer? It a good bit of work to remove all the panels to install the subwoofer in the cargo area. I would hate to take it all apart to put the subwoofer there if I have no connector to make it work.

In the 2005 Outbacks, only the 3.0R VDC model had the rear cargo sub. Most (all?) other 2005 Legacy/Outback models have the 2 subwoofer wires on the 8-pin "i85" harness, but those wires dead-end somewhere before reaching the rear. There's a small chance the wires in your LL Bean go all the way to the rear, but it's unlikely.

How are you fitting the double-DIN C-123 into your Outback?

Why don't you take the subwoofer harness from the donor vehicle? That way if yours don't have you can add it to your setup.

I'm going back to the donor car this weekend to get the plate that the sub bolts to. Forgot that. Going to see how much of the sub harness I can get as well if any.

Oops, I forget that Foresters had LL Bean models too.

BTW, you should fill in your profile here.

I suspect your Forester does not have those wires running all the way to the rear, but I don't know. I don't recall hearing from anyone who found them (in a car that did not ship with the OEM rear cargo sub). But I don't think many people have looked for them.

I pulled out the foam on the left side of my cargo area of my 2005 LL Bean. In the area where the subwoofer speaker would go I found the wire and connector that matches the subwoofer speaker I pulled from a 2008 Forester Sports 2.5X. I'm glad I didn't have to pull all the side trim to see the wire. Since the wire is there and I have the 8 pin plug going into the radio with pins 4 and 8 populated it looks like I can add this subwoofer speaker.

I have already pulled my 2005 radio and replaced it with the C123 out of the 2008 Forester Sports. That also gains me the AUX pod as well.

Hey SVCdc, I sent you an email about buying a forward wrx wiring harness from you but I haven't heard back from you, did you not get my email? Just wondering, I'm really looking forward to hooking up my system and am just waiting on the harness! :3

Hello. I have to make a post now since I've already read things for the past 5 hours and still am confused and don't have the proper answer..

I have a 2012 Forester XT Touring non-navi. My stock headunit had a 3" screen on it, but it's not the navigation deck.

The reason for my post is getting the stock under seat sub to work with my aftermarket deck which is already fully installed.

I've installed a Pioneer avic Z140bh + ASWC.

I have the OEM underseat sub just like this: http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulle...668-post1.html

I have already read all the posts in this thread http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulle...95/#post509668
as well as Rustoz's post about how to wire it http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulle...95/#post848630

However, in many of SVXdc's posts here and here and here , he explains about the 8 pin harness.

The problem is, all of the posts I've come across explain the harness as being much different wire colors and less wires used than what my vehicle has.

here is an exact picture i JUST created from my 8 pin harness on my vehicle

so my question is, what wires do I need to tap into, or what do I need to do for my vehicle to get the OEM underseat sub to work since my 8 pin has different colors/wires than what I've already read about.

thanks

My table is for 2009-2010 models. Your car is a 2012. So my table doesn't apply to your car. (actually, there are some 2011-2012 cars with base model HUs which do still use the 8-pin plug for aux and subwoofer).

In 2011-up Forester HU models with built-in Bluetooth and USB (and with the phone/Bluetooth buttons on the steering wheel), the aux harness has a 16-pin plug. That odd-shaped sub connects to pins on that same plug. Pin-out is similar to my 8-pin table, except the aux and sub are on different pins.

See pin-out here.

I make a harness with an RCA plug that will let you connect that odd-shaped OEM sub to your aftermarket HU's line level subwoofer output. See this.

The 8-pin plug in your picture (nice pics, BTW) goes to your OEM rear view camera. See this thread for more info and pin-out. I make a harness for that too.

yeah, my 16 pin car harness is just sitting behind my pioneer deck not plugged into anything.

the 09-10 tables got confusing since 09-13 are same model, but the darn 8 pin harness thing kept confusing the crap outta me.

then reading the posts on SF.org about the odd shaped sub, i couldn't figure out why my 8 pin colors were so different.

alright, well I can butcher an RCA cable to go from my pioneer deck to the 16 pin no problem. so that is all that is needed? just the line input and the decks amp wire going to the 16pin sub amp turn on wire?

the RCA's look like pins: SUBW+, SUBW-, SUBW SHIELD ?
can you explain the wiring a little better so I can butcher my RCA

i don't need the aux or usb port in my center console since my pioneer deck uses it's own cable to my iphone 4S.
feel free to steal my 8pin pic if you want :P
thanks for all the help

There are 2011-up Foresters with the same base-level HU as 2009-2010 (all with the 8-pin aux socket), but there are also many 2011-up Foresters with BT which switched to the 16-pin socket.

Correct.

Connections are similar to the way I describe for the OEM Kenwood Navi (further down in my 'Subaru stock HU info' thread). See the description of the balanced signals there (which I've just edited to remove talking about phase, which was not correct).

* Connect your RCA plug's center lead to pin 6 (the sub's positive polarity input).

* Connect the RCA's outer ground lead to pin 13 (the sub's audio ground/shield).

* Also connect the RCA outer lead to pin 14 -- this grounds the sub's negative polarity input, which will increase the amplitude the sub sees on its positive input (i.e., your sub will be louder).

* Connect pin 5 to your HU's 12V remote turn-on (blue/white wire).

I hate to see people hack their factory wires. I can build a 16-pin adapter with just a single male RCA for the sub and remote turn-on lead for less than my complete aux harness. E-mail me if you're interested (click on my username to see my profile).

Thanks.
Well I've connected it once, didn't work. Connected it all up a second time a slightly different way, still doesn't work.

3 hours have gone by, I've checked checked checked checked wires being connected, and doesn't work.

are you sure these pins are correct?

I prefer "wire colors" instead of pins.
you linked me to this http://www.iwsti.com/forums/gr-ice-s...s-pin-out.html

but his 16pin wire colors are not the same as mine

this is my 16pin harness which right now is unplugged and just sitting behind my pioneer deck

my stock deck was a small LCD deck, which is not the 2011+ STI Non Navi HU

2011-2013 Forester wire colors (on the factory 16-pin mic+aux+sub harness behind the HU):

Code:
Pin Description Forester factory wire color
--- ----------------------------- ---------------------------
5 Amp remote turn-on GREEN/WHITE
6 Sub audio (positive polarity) LIGHT GREEN
13 Sub audio ground/shield GRAY/BLUE (shield)
14 Sub audio (inverted polarity) BLACK/YELLOW
Test your sub with your OEM HU -- make sure the sub still works. If not, check the fuse for the sub (in the engine bay). Also check the sub's internal fuse.

If that checks out, make sure your HU is providing the +12V amp turn-on signal.

Quick question, I read the FAQ and didn't see it.

Are the pins used in these harnesses available anywhere? Are they standard, and is there a part number?

I'd like to add SWC to my 2013 BRZ. The FAQ has the pin-outs for the Fujitsu Ten HU, and resistance values to use for the switches, but is it safe to assume that the factory wiring would not include the physical pins themselves or the wiring to them, so I'd need to buy the pins, crimp wires on, and stick them into the connector?

Default 2003 forrester cross sports (Japan Spec) OEM subwoofer to a/marker double din

Hello everyone,

Since this is my first post I would like to congratulate you on your excellent forum. I wanted to make a new thread for this query but since I need a certain number of posts to be able to create a new thread, I will try to put everything here. If any op wants to move it to its own thread, feel free.

My car is a 2003 Japan Spec Forrester (right hand drive) and it has the OEM audio unit which is a double din 6 cd changer (the cd changer itself is contained within the unit). There are 4 OEM speakers, one in each door, with 2 tweeters next to either side mirror on the A pillar.

Pics from left to right:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/5572685...7633952901468/

1. car interior
2. OEM double din unit back (upside down, removed lower casing)
3. OEM double din unit bottom
4. OEM double din unit front (upside down)
5. OEM double din unit code
6. OEM subwoofer

Alpine CDE-W235BT back:
http://www.dynamicebay.com/ebayimg/a...EW235BT004.JPG

There is also an OEM subwoofer that is "just a plain, unpowered speaker. It's built into the side or pillar in the rear cargo area (not under a seat)". This is the closest definition for it that i could find in this sticky:

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=749402

My aim was to replace the double din unit with another double din to have bluetooth and aux functionality and replace the front speakers as the left one was shot.

I got an adaptor for the audio unit and connected everything without cutting any wires etc. the four speakers, radio, tweeters all work well and the only thing that is not working is the subwoofer. I suspect that the subwoofer connection is the double pin out (see through plastic, top right on pic 2) on the OEM. A guy doing installations told me to connect it to ONE of the two RCA outs on the Alpine unit, however it does not work when connected this way. I asked why not on both RCAs (since pin - out is double) and he said this will fry the speakers. this does not seem logical to me but im worried so I thought I would ask here. My other worry is that the OEM double din has a small, integrated amp to drive the speaker. Hopefully someone can tell from the pics 2 and 3. It seems unlikely to me given that the subwoofer is not a "real" subwoofer and seems to be an "unpowered speaker" as per the sticky.

I own a 2012 WRX Sedan. I am looking to keep the factory head unit (non-nav) but replace all my door speakers. Any recommendations as to what speakers most people go with? I want something that fits nicely/requires minimum alterations to my doors. Thanks guys.

Default Aux in options for 2007 Forester with single CD player

I've been trying to figure out what I can do with my 2007 Forester's head unit to get an aux in (for playing a smartphone or mp3 player). I've got the single CD player (P139) head unit. I believe it is the same as this (but I haven't removed it to confirm the rear connectors are the same):
http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulle...orester-52779/

From what I see here (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...37&postcount=6) it seems like I can't add an aux via a rear connector unless I can fake the data stream from an external CD changer.

So am I correct about that? And do I have any other options with this setup (Forester X)?

SVXdc - Question...

I have this headunit and would like to use it with an interior amp, sub amp, and two subs... However, I have heard that keeping it and using a line-out converter will cause destortion and lower-quality... Is there other alternatives that are still budget friendly? Since I paid about a $1,000 or more for this headunit not knowing the low-end quality of the sound (or pre-outs) I don't really want to sell it, or go buy another headunit.

Any options/opinions would be great! Thank you.

(Sorry if this has been covered before - I searched but no luck.)
I have an 07 Forester with the single CD ("type A") radio, with no AUX button. Is there any way to hack an AUX input (1/8" female) into this radio?
Thanks!
