Default Information on an oem hu transplant in a 12 sti

Hello all. I have a few questions about my options for transplanting the Oem headunit in my 12 sti limited. So here goes.....it has the basic non navi clarion CD w/bt. I want to upgrade retaining my swc and add a back up can and an Oem sub. Is this possible without using a Oem navi hu? Also what would I need to make it work? Hopefully the Subie world can help. Thank you kindly.

Hello all, Im trying to add a Line output converter on a 2016 base wrx(no harmon kardon or nav) . I cant seem to find any info or wiring diagrams for the factory wiring to the head unit.

I want to tap in to the rear speakers for the LOC. Anyone have information/or suggestions?

Default Subaru OEM upgrade

Hi there, im not sure if this is the right place to post or ask as i never been on one of these sites before.

I bought a 2008 subaru impreza 2.5i. Has the premium 6 speaker (tweeters) sound system. Came with the CZ641U6 stereo (no Bluetooth or nav). I recently bought the upgraded unit CM621UB which has the Bluetooth but no nav. This is a 2014 unit. I connected most things, and it works. But the only problem is that it freezes on startup(car on). Pressing the power button twice fixes that problem. I does not auto connect to Bt (i dont know if thats normal, to connect is easy i just figured it should automatically do it. The main problem is that the steering wheel controls dont work at all now. Both units have the 20 pin harness, but my car doesnt have the bt phone controls. From what i read, the mode button and bt phone controls are together, but im unsure if they swapped the other controls to another pin. Basing my question off of http://ae64.com/20-pin-pinout.htm which shows some differences from the older to newer models.

Main question, how to stop it from freezing on startup and is it possible to get at least some of the steering wheel controls (volume and skips) working again via swapping pins on the main harness? Thank you.

Can't help on the freezing problem. Sounds like you got a defective HU.

As for the SWCs, you can't fix things by simply swapping pins. The resistors in your 2008's SWC buttons are completely different than the resistors in the newer models' SWCs that have the extra phone/BT buttons. Your SWCs are incompatible with the newer HUs. See these threads:

The connectors and pin-out for all of the power and speaker wires are the same as what I posted here (post #9 in that thread).

FYI: The secondary 28-pin harness in your car has mostly the same pin-out as shown in that post. Ignore the rest of that post -- everything else is different.

Time to start planning an upgrade. I want to add in a double din android auto capable head unit that allows me to use swc and back up camera.

Thank you for the fast reply. I understand what you said but if by chance of getting a single button on the SWC to work, via swapping pins, which pins would you suggest? Being that pin 4, 11, 13, and 14 on the radio all seem to be swc related. Also in a potential hope that the radio difference in the pinout may be causing the startup freezing. Thanks.

Your 2008's SWC buttons absolutely will not work with the CM621UB. Swapping pins won't make any difference.

Only pins 4, 14, and 13 are for SWCs. Pin 13 is vacant on your car's 20-pin plug, since your 2008 only has 2 wires that run between the HU and the SWCs -- pins 4 and 14.

In your 2008, pins 11 and 12 have the CAN data bus signals. The CM621UB ignores those (it is unaffected by them). These pins do not have anything to do with SWCs.

You need to replace the actual SWC button pod in your steering wheel (with the type that has the phone/Bluetooth buttons -- those used in 2011 Impreza or 2011-2014 WRX and STi models). It's not too difficult to retrofit just the portion on the left spoke. That will give you working volume and tune up/down buttons (MODE will be dead, and the newer pod no longer has a MUTE button).

Adding the lower pod with the phone/BT buttons would require the additional wiring and modifications that we discuss in those threads I linked to. Those mods also enable the MODE button.

The CM621UB freezing is not being caused by the radio harness' wiring in your 2008. The problem is simply that that HU is defective.

Just to make sure, please don't hate me. lol

But to run a PAC SNI 35 to the stock 2015 WRX HU (Non HK). To wire t-tap to the front speakers are these colors listed right? *connecting a sub/ amp to stock radio basically*

Left Front Speaker Wire (+) Positive: Blue/Orange
Left Front Speaker Wire (-) Negative: White/Black
Right Front Speaker Wire (+) Positive: Brown/Yellow
Right Front Speaker Wire (-) Negative: Green

Those are correct at the car's 20-pin radio harness, in 2008-2015 WRX and STi. Note that in several models/years the wire colors change mid-stream between there and the speakers. The colors may or may not be the same at the speakers.

Also, if your car has one of Subaru's accessory subwoofers (as well as a few other accessories, either OEM or aftermarket), you may find that there is a harness inserted between the car's factory radio harness and the radio. The wire colors on the accessory harness will be completely different (and in many cases also do not follow the color standard used by aftermarket car audio).

This harness will allow you to add a sub and/or amp for the main speakers without splicing into factory wires (for any models that use the Subaru/Nissan 20-pin style radio harness, including all non-nav 2008-2015 WRX and STi).

Thank you! I'll be placing an order with you soon for that wiring. Your website said the 8 wires are longer and each of them have writing on them saying which one is L/R Positive and Negative if I'm not mistaken. So that should make this process a MUCH easier as well I hope

Default Microphone for 2008 STI OEM navigation

Hello, Can you suggest some aftermarket microphones that will work with the OEM Kenwood STi Navigation? I don`t want to pay 100$ for the OEM one.

I read through a lot of the posts on this thread and I didn't see anything about upgrading the stock Head Unit and keeping the factory sub.

Is this possible? I don't know wether or not I have that "5th" connector or not.

Is there any subs out there that will be a good upgrade to that and fit under the seat still?

thanks!!

Yes, you can use the OEM sub with an aftermarket HU. See 'subwoofer' notes in this guide (for 2008-2010 Impreza, WRX, and STi models that did not have OEM navigation).

The OEM HUs in 2008 and later models don't have the 5th-channel output for a sub, so your 2008 STi won't have the extra connector. Only some older models (around 2002) had that.

Searched, and can't find,

The 2004 STi that did not come with a Radio factory installed; Where there Speaker Blanks in the Doors or just open Holes?

Checked the Online Parts Catalogs and they come up with speakers only.

What is the radio model for a navi trans plant into a non-navi transplant for a 2014 wrx with stock satellite radio gear installed?

What else would I need for the install? I have read quite a bit and am still a little confused?

Thanks for the help!

Can't get a reply from SVXdc... I want to add aux to my EDM outback 2008 (HU is GX-240LE) and the plug that goes to the back of stock HU is missing the relevant pins (only the SWC relevant pins are present and wired to the harness); does anybody know where to get the pins?

edit: Found on some polish subaru forum:

Hi all looking for help!

I purchased a new to me 2013 fxt touring that comes with the standard underseat sub.

The previous owner installed a pioneer double din deck. Everything works with the exception of the under seat subwoofer.

Is it possible to get it working? I can't find any information on the underseat subwoofer that came in the touring as it looks totally different than the optional upgrade offered by subaru.

Hello there,

Are you still selling your custom made harness?
Looking to buy one for my Impreza 2011, I have an old pioneer AVIC-U310BT and got hold of a Kenwood FXDB09KF2.
I also send you an email on [email protected] for a quote.

Hope to hear from you soon

I have been lurking on this site for a while now & could not find this question asked elsewhere

I am trying to get by w/ the poor stock system for a bit before i can get an aftermarket system installed

I cannot get my iPhone6 to play music via the USB connection

It recognizes the device as an iPod
I try to hit play on the phone & immediately the music stops/pauses

I can get it to work fine over BTA, but I would rather play straight through the USB & not have to listen to a compressed BTA signal, making the bad stock system sound even worse.

What am I missing here?
(BTW if this is the wrong thread for this question I apologize)

I know this is super old, but did you ever find a way to do this? The BT on this HU is awful, and my first thought was USB but like you said, you must turn BT off. I’m trying to put off buying a new HU for now.

Thanks!!!
