If this goes the way I htink this goes it iwll look like this...
3-4 years of cole being ****ng amazing, MAYBE a ring in that time, and the remainder served out as his skills fade but never fall apart.

OR

He gets injured early on and yankee fans turn on him, he wants out, and can't get traded due to cost, yankees have to pay to offload him and he is gone by year 4

also, just no matter how it turns out.... **** this is a blow to the AL east. The yankees have a hell of an offense, and if they can get cole to smother it every 5 games, this is gonna be a ****ing hellscape in the AL east for a few years. My hope is the redsox offload enough money, get some talent, and fire back. since 2004 the redsox has been the better franchise, as we tilt to 2020 I have already gotten texts that this will be the yankees decade.

On the one hand, #AngryArte struck out/cheaped out again. On the other hand, that's a hell of a lot of money to dedicate to one player....see Fat Albert.

Best possible scenario is that he opts out after 5 years. Because that would mean those 5 years he was still dominant as ****.

Now that the Asstros have stopped cheating (probably) and the Yankees have Cole, they should be well suited to actually make it past game 7 of the ALCS.

Kinda sad to see Didi sign with the Phillies, I guess that means Gleyber is full SS now, and DJ back at 2nd.

One other thing, Cole as a kid:

I guess the third times a charm for the Yankees, seeing as how they originally drafted him and tried to trade for him.

It will be great when he has Tommy John surgery in 2-3 years...

This is why MLB needs a salary-cap. You have maybe 5 teams in all of baseball that can keep up with this ****...

No.

Besides they already have the luxury tax. Plus plenty of low budget teams are competitive nearly every year, A's and Rays for example.

Personally I despise the notion of a salary cap, the players don't want it either, it's really only a handful of team owners that might want it, and they're already rich as hell so **** them.

When was the last time they managed to win one of those? 2003?

Or it's just about keeping some sort of parity in the game. Teams like the A's and Rays are competitive until they're not.

The luxury tax and revenue sharing allow all the other teams and their owners to sit back, thumbs in their ass, making money on other peoples work. Give everyone an even playing field, still pay your top talent like all the other sports that have salary cap and make it fun again.

I get it, as a Red Sox fan I've seen decades of over spending for great talent and **** talent, keeping them one of the handful of relative teams in the game...

Baseball has more parity than the NFL and NBA, both of which have salary caps.

Ooooh...a random stat appears...from 9 years ago...

That really doesn't mean too much. Even in that article it is clear that MLB has a handful of top teams and a lot of junk in the trunk stored in the basement.

MLB also has a very high percentage of the consistently worse teams, teams that go long spells without winning anything...

NBA teams have 12 players on the team and tiny stadiums with REALLY small market teams, not to mention a sport that relies heavily on individuals with talent.

BUT the NBA has the most teams that reach the playoffs of any of the big 4. Baseball has the fewest.

How is who played in the World Series in the last 20 years a "random" stat? And where are you getting this 9 from?

Also, Rendon to the Angels, 7yr/$245.

It's hard to argue against the Nats chances. That's a really good team. You know the Dodgers will have something to say about it too. The Yankees with Cole is not a team I'd want to face in the playoffs either.

Which I figure means Mike Trout can finally start hitting with some real protection in the lineup!

Calling it now. Madbum to the Dodgers. 7/$200M. Less risky than injury prone Ryu. Puig gone.

This is good for baseball. One of the biggest rivalries in baseball will further that legacy with the number of confused boners this would create.
