Default stage 2 question

I have a question about stage 2 & cobb AP OTS stage 2:

I have a '17 WRX, with Cobb SF intake + AP (ots stage 1 tune)

If I install a ETS turboback (jpipe+catback), will Cobb AP OTS Stage 2 still work without issues? Or is Cobb's turboback required to run the OTS stage 2?

Default New 2016 STI Owner here

Hi Everyone,
I recently purchased a pre-owned 2016 STI Lmtd. It is my first Subbie. My car prior to this was a 2008 Lexus GS 460, prior to that was a 2003 M3, and then a S2000, and a couple of Preludes. I had gotten bored of the 460 and wanted to get back to something that was "raw" and fun. So after some thinking ... along came the STI And a fact ... the interior space of the STI is similar to the GS460. The vehicle is, however, shorter.

So now that I've had the car for a short while I would like to, like most other people here, make it more fun. I don't know if I want to change the Turbo and all - right now I'd incline to say no - and just stick with bolt-ons.

The Cobb Stage 2 Power Package @ $2400 seems popular (+ installation fees).
I called around and was suggested an alternative to the Cobb Solution which includes the AEM CAI, Cobb BCS Kit, Invidia down pipe catted, heatshield, ets catback exhaust, titanium exhaust wrap for downpipe.

The alternative to the Cobb Stage 2 Power Package is about $500 more expensive and the shop claims that it should produce 20-40 more HP than the Cobb Stage 2.

Anyone here with any experience that can help to suggest if this claim is likely to be true and whether the extra cost of $500 is worth it?

Hey Everyone,
I'm deciding on my first set of bolt ons to my STI. I'm leaning to with the following :AP, AEM CAI, BCS Kit, Invidia Catted Down Pipe, and a 93 Tune.

What I've removed from the list is the Catback exhaust system which saves me $$$ for now. Plus the shop said that that could be done later with future changes and for now it wouldn't offer much in terms of power gains. And is it was the most expensive thing on the list it came off and will be done in the future.

Does anyone have a similar set up? Or can speak to it? I'd love to hear insights, experiences so that I know what to expect and whether its worth getting the exhaust now with the tune vs. later in the future.

If it's the same parts (dp, bcs, CAI) then it's really doubtful whether a different company's parts will net you greater hp or tq over another if your tuner is competent. 20-40bhp is the difference between dynos and is probably going to be unnoticeable. If he wants you to spend $500 for 40 hp (brake or wheel?) then he's probably making a profit in that somewhere down the line.

But, some tuner's don't like certain companies or products from certain companies, so find out if that plays a part. You can almost always source different manufacturer parts cheaper then buying a stage package.

since I'm about to dyno tune my car, let's see how accurate we can try to be:

05' LegacyGT EJ255 5EAT
5280' elevation
91octane
mishimoto TMIC
catless up-pipe
Cobb catted DP
borla catback exhaust
195k miles
stock vf40 (currently at 15.2psi), stock fuel, stock airbox and filter
mustang MD-500 Dyno at Cyrotune Performance.

as soon as I can source out a rev3 AP for my car and I bolt on the exhaust stuff. most likely end of September. I'm hoping for the 250/250 mark at about 15.5psi on 91 at this altitude

got a gently used v2 AP, a stock STi catless UP, and ordered the grimmspeed metal gaskets. just need to find a catless DP and a wideband and I'll be ready for tuning!

UPDATE: I ended up buying a new Cobb catted downpipe. all else remains the same. Appointment for the Dyno is on the 28th. Going for a conservative and safe tune. just trying to smooth out the curves and make it a bit more responsive. I think 240 is a realistic goal at this point, but likely going to be closer to the 225 mark. it's all arm-chair speculation at this point, but we shall see!

well, the first pull was 226.7/288.4 which was just the baseline run to even start tuning.

...and then the transmission threw the dreaded P0700. so, I need to source out a 5EAT before I can take it back and really find out what I've got.

I'm new to the forums. Not looking to get a crazy amount of power. Probably just 300 Crank, i do not want to go pro tune or dyno. Is there anyway i can minimal mods and get up to 250-3whp? I was thinking catback, AP, and J Pipe. I run 93 octane, and am not looking to change intercooler anytime soon. I would rather just do simple bolt ons.

I have a 2018 WRX, no mods currently, sitting at 600 miles. (This is for the future, not anytime soon)

An accessport and intake will get you at least 260

I've heard different things about an intake. Most say that intake does not do much until youve reached higher HP numbers. However, most OTS stage 2 tunes require intakes, so im not too sure where i stand.

that's because the vendors that sell OTS tunes, have their own intakes, and they're selling you a "package"

Right, but isn't an intake not worth it unless your doing more serious power mods?

that's the consensus. Unless you want the "wooooosh," i do, but i don't want the potential headaches that can come with it.

I'm just saying that both MAP and COBB have OTS Stage 2 tunes, and they also both have their own intake; they're just selling it as a "package." They're trying to make money. you don't need an intake until you get to the point where you're making serious power. I don't need the headache.

i tend to only buy what i need and what will actually make a change. spending $350+ on a noise maker that could potentially turn into a HUGE PITA just isn't worth it for me. there are better ways to spend your money. like an e-tune/pro-tune. i also don't want to have to keep my AP plugged in and have to watch it 24/7 to make sure my motor doesn't nuke itself.

Looking to make around 280 whp on my 2017 WRX. So far I haven't done any power mods, and it is my daily driver so I don't want to do anything crazy. Here's what I'm thinking:

Cobb Accessport
TGV/EGR deletes
Grimmspeed EBCS
Process West Khanacooler intercooler
Grimmspeed charge pipe
Invidia Q300 cat back exhaust

If you go to proven power bragging subforum and look at Bren tuning, you will see these set ups easily make 280whp with a pro tune.

Can't post pictures but here's some background

04 wrx, Mustang dyno @5250

Built transmission RA gears 1-4
2.5 shortblock 2.0 heads
Vf39 turbo

Altitude kills power. You can go by either number, it's actually 235whp, wcf would be what it would make at sea level and standardized temp. That way you can compare it to other similar setups.
