It's very tempting to wait for a huge dip in price and then jump on the bandwagon.
I will know in another day maybe two, with an ACH transfer pending. I used Campbx.com, which I found to be a pretty common trading site. 2 dollarbuck fee for direct transfer.

If you're read up on how mining works, though, it's far too late to get into it for any good money, as it just gets more and more difficult to mine.

Rasta - what happens when nobody gets paid for mining any longer, basically bitcoins just turn into something like paypal, but anonymous? That's what I always figured the currency would be anyway - well, not really a currency, but instead just something anonymous, digital, and secure that people can trade.

<- kicking self also, I could have been mining several a month for years, but the value was just stupidly volatile. $500 bucks a coin? Cash out!

Oh, and my take from this thread: There is no backing for bitcoins other than demand. After China gets done buying all yer minez, there will be no supply left. The bottom will fall out and everyone holding on to bitcoins right now are chumps. Thanks again, China!

You are probably not making much, if anything after power costs.

NVidia GPUs just dont really handle mining well. I run 2 8750's and a 5770 at around 410w from the wall (I got a cheap meter) mining LTC and get about 1LTC a day at 900kh/s.

also,

Let's get more discussion going in the last thing aod said..

He predicted that as soon as buyers in china dry up everything drops again..

Any others want to chime in on the subject? Speculators and day traders won't be able to keep the value up? Miners will sell for under their electric costs? Why do you think it (the value) will drop out when china is stocked?

Yeah I'm just saying it's much easier to buy bitcoins than litecoins.

Now that the litecoin inventor works for coinbase, I suspect that any day it will be just as easy to buy litecoin there as bitcoin.

I've been thinking of setting up a litecoin mining rig.

It's a bubble, that's why it'll drop. It's fake money.

I don't think buyers are going to dry up anytime soon.

Indeed I do

But still, it's WAY too volatile right now to be considered a good idea, at least in my opinion. But damn, I sure do wish I bought a few back in Jan when they were like $13 each.

Says everyone.

I didn't buy that low (and I remember pricing them when they were under a ****ing dollar ), but I will say I've profited in the thousands already.

Ok sorry I wasnt specific enough.

I understand that price can drop but so far after the bubbles that have occurred, prices still maintained at a higher plateau than pre bubble.

The way the china argument was made , made it sound like that everything will drop out. I took that to mean pre April 2013 levels . Maybe that isn't what aod meant. Personally, even if it falls, I don't know if we will ever see $2 LTC again.

Ok rasta, fair enough re: coinbase and LTC. That is interesting news about the LTC guy being on the team now. Actually that is great news!!

LTC hit $48 earlier today, now is around $45.

https://btc-e.com/exchange/ltc_usd

So no, no more $2 LTC.

do you think its still profitable to start mining litecoin now?

R9 280x ~ 300 dollars....

setup a machine to do mining for ~1000 USD with two 280x for ~1400 kh/s

I don't pay for power where I live, so that wouldn't be a factor....

at the current difficulty thats about 1000USD/month or so... so, theoretically should be all profit after the first month

ideas/suggestions?

If you dont pay for power then you arent losing as long as you mine what you spent on your rig.

Seems like a no brainer

since I am new to this completely, is it difficult to sell these LTC for USD? seems like BTC-E is the place to do this, but is it complicated?
