Default The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt (PS4, XB1, PC)

I'm kind of surprised there hasn't been a thread about this game yet. It currently has a 92 Metacritic score (including several perfect scores) and is an early contender for game of the year.

I for one am absolutely addicted to the game. It's huge and I think it will be almost impossible to do everything the game has to offer. The really great thing is that while there is a ton to do, all of it feels important and it is all well written. I always believe that quality it more important than quantity and this game really has both. In fact, I would argue that the side quests are where the real story is. Seemingly innocuous quests turn into epic stories that can take you all over the map doing really interesting things.

The combat is fun, but does take a while to get used to. The movement is kind of strange and it honestly took about 2-3 hours before I was comfortable.

I'm playing on PS4 and haven't noticed any slowdowns or issues. They are patching the game weekly with free DLC and fixes so that's a plus.

Oh and the collectable card game that exists within the game is AWESOME. I actually seek out cards and players to build my deck. Apparently there is a giant in game tournament that takes place and I'm actually looking forward to it. I'm having as much fun with gwent (dumb name, great game) as I am with the main game.

Anyone else into it? I know I can't be the only one ... my friends list is full of people playing it.

I've been playing it and love it. We've talked about it a little in the XBone thread because I was too lazy to make a thread for it on it's own.

If ESO flops, this is where I'll be for the next 4-5 months. (TheMonkeyOnUrBak)

I'm really hoping ESO works out though. I'd prefer to stick with an IP I know and love vs a new one.

Buddy got one with his GTX 970, haven't asked if it's good yet. Keep seeing commercials, kinda makes me want to grab a copy.

^I thought you were out of the game business? Or did you just sell your PS4?

I just sold my PS4 and gave my Xbox to the girlfriend (who quickly got over whatever game she wanted ). Haven't played any PC games in a while, but I seem to have spare time.

Don't waste your time with ESO, there's probably a damn good reason you don't hear about it and it got 5's and 6's for it's score.

It's been out for over a year. I wanted to want it but it looks like they made it suck instead of being just like multiplayer Skyrim which is what I hoped it would be.

Anyway, there's about 150% guarantee that TW3 is much, much better.

Getting my copy today. Really didn't like the game mechanics of the first one, but watching a lot of streams of this one makes me think I will be able to handle it. Really interested in the story.

Dayman that review is over a year old...I want to see what they've done once the port to PS4 is available.
Plus he/she said the single player is good (which is all I want anyway). I doubt many people I know will have this.

I only played about 4 hours of Witcher 1 and they are nothing alike (in terms of combat mechanics). Wild Hunt is way more streamlined.

A lot of your strategy will depend on the difficulty level you play at. I started a game on the default level and it was too easy. Didn't have to care about oils or any prep before battle. Plus you regained health when you meditate (which makes the game very easy)

I restarted the game on the second highest difficulty and the game is a challenge. You almost have to approach combat the same way as Bloodborne. Prep for battle, make sure you have the right oils and tons of dodge and magic. Taking on 3-5 enemies at once is very challenging and usually ends in death. Makes the game more high stakes ... which I like

You also need to consult the beastiary before major battles because if you don't know the strengths and weaknesses of the enemy, you might not be able to win. It's incredibly deep and satisfying.

I'm pretty cracked out on this game right now. Didn't enjoy the previous games much, but this one is brilliant. Just hit level 10, and I've barely scratched the surface of the game.

The side quests in this game are incredible. All their own little stories. There is so much to read about. Monster hunting is great fun. Exploring is cool. The characters are awesome. I just got to the third area and just can't believe it's better than the first two!

**** gwent. I have no idea what I'm doing in there.

I'm playing on the difficulty below the hardest and I think it's nice. I can't imagine playing it on anything lower. It's a nice challenge but not ridiculous. I've gotten laid 6 or 7 times now ( I only paid for 4 of them). 10/10

Plus the execution animations are awesome.

The only downside is the load time after dying sucks.

After playing Bloodborne, these load times are fine.

They seem to average 30-35 seconds but I had one where I was certain that the game froze up...it finished loading about 3 minutes later.

I'm level 12 or 13 and 11% done. It says I've played 26 hours but I have a lot of idle time. I'd say I've actually played somewhere around 18 or 19 hours.

Here's a funny NSFW glitch.

I think I'm near 40 hours and just hit level 20. You get most XP from missions. Not really just killing stuff and exploring. Though the latter is fun.

Oh, and I don't need that horse anymore. Damn thing always wanting to stay on a path.

I'm probably 7-8 hours in at level 5 I want to say. I've got the house to myself tonight so I'll probably be logging a few more hours in.

I've never been much of an rpg fan but I'm really enjoying this game

The side quests are what make the game. It's also pretty much the only real way of earning XP. I don't even bother with random encounters anymore ... it's a waste of time and the risk of dying is too high ...

As for gwent ... take the time to learn it. I'm having so much fun with it. I play against every innkeeper and merchant that offers it. I look forward to it. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets spun off into it's own game eventually

Absolutely hated the second one (never played first), gave this one a try and its a pretty awesome game. I agree pretty much with what everyone says. The only complaints I have is what already been criticized, small text in the game, I cant believe out of hundreds of testers for this game nobody ever mentioned that maybe font size should be increased. The menu takes time to get used to especially after simple menu systems like Bloodborne or Skyrim for example. Combat also is awkward at first, definitely not as rewarding but fun I would say, it grows on you. I hope they fix they fps drop on the ps4, for a new gen console it should not be an issue, otherwise its better getting a gaming pc. The fast travel system could have been done better. The minimap also could have been better, more obvious custom marker signs and small icons indicating direction of the next feature (smith, location ect) akin to skyrim. Also the skill points, I don't know if I like it or not, so far i'm progressing through the game nicely and it seems damage and armor rating take more precedence then skill points. You can ultimately by level 30 only have 9 active skills out of like 40 or 50 if i'm not mistaken. If its a mechanic so the player doesn't become an invincible killing machine god in higher levels then it might be ingenious. Skyrim and games of that type suffer from it, when the player becomes too powerful. Manually switching skill points based on need is pretty annoying and inefficient.

For ps4 in case you didn't know there are some shortcuts that make the menu a little bit more streamlined. Swiping the pad gets you right into the world map, holding the pad down gets you straight into inventory screen. If you hold the ps and square button you can zoom in to read that small text, its a ps feature not the games.

The side quests and even main quests are extremely well done, cant get enough of them, future rpgs should take notice (looking at you elder scrolls 6). I think Im getting the hang of guen, other then buying new cards how do you get more cards? by playing npcs? Do all shopkeepers and smiths give you new cards as reward? They could have gotten a better tutorial for it, sometimes opponents do some crazy **** with their cards like bonus points and stuff and I have no idea what is happening. I really envy the pc gamers, the game looks absolutely beautiful on ps4, I can imagine its absolutely stunning at 60fps in all pc glory.

Definitely not perfect, but very close to it, for those who are just starting it just immerse yourself into the world and lore, and play as Gerald not as yourself, and it becomes much more fun, it does take a little time getting used to,so just give it a chance. The tutorial area is probably one of the best tutorial methods you could have in an rpg like that. The game is based on the books, so just go with it. I know, why would you have two swords and your signs could have simpler names, i still have trouble remembering which one is which sometimes, but whatever.
