I believe it is the main harness that connects directly to back of the radio based on what I have been told. In other words, you can't just slap a 2019 HK unit in a 2015 - 2018 vehicle because it won't hook up. Also, the 2019 HK unit features a CAN controller for the volume going to the factory HK amp by sending a fixed signal to the inputs then using a separate mechanism to control the volume.

I guess I get what I deserve for thinking that it would be easy to just replace the HK system in the 2019 if I didn't like it.

I dug through the 2018 and 2018 service manuals, looks like all important connections and pinouts are the same.
So last week I (attempted) to pull the trigger on the 86471VA610 radio. It looks like 86471VA610 is for the WRX and 86471VA710 is for the STI. My guess would be something to do with the single vs dual zone climate controls?

Anyways Subaru Parts Warehouse was running a 30% off sale so it brought the radio down to $1200 and change. Well they got back to me and said that the radio could only be ordered by the dealer's service department as a warranty replacement... I did call another Subi dealer to make sure they were not selling me a story and they confirmed the same.

So it looks like for now the Parts counter isn't an option for these, back to hoping someone wants to sell one used.

Dude, don't spend $1200 on a factory head unit!

I'd rather have the Alpine Halo 9. In fact, I'm still waiting on AutoHarnessHouse to get back to me so I can yank the HK unit out of my 2019... I have one friend who grew tired of waiting and just cut the factory plugs in his 2019 STI that came with the HK system... I, OTOH, would like the ability to return to stock easily...

I know it sounds nuts but I hate the look of aftermarket radios. They never look right to me and takes away from the interior. I'll gladly pay a premium for an insanely clean cabin.

I hear you--keep an eye on the classifieds and ebay. Im sure people are listing them for sale in favor of an aftermarket unit.

Default 2019 Starlink on eBay

One popped up on eBay fellas....All the connections definitely look the same except the side of the far bottom right connect (Seems more rectangular on the older units....I checked cause I have an extra starlink in my garage) and those other 2 black connection in the middle are new.

Hope this helps out.

Earlier pages of this thread someone already posted the back of the non-HK unit. Its the HK-unit's connections that's unknown.

Thanks though... and maybe someone here would like to get on that unit and experiment!

What's interesting is that the unit posted is actually branded as a HK unit.

Any updates? I am really needing an Android Auto capable headunit on my 2018 with the HK after getting a Google phone.. I just want to retain the factory look and also be able to have steering wheel controls, Starlink SOS, and the backup camera, but that's not looking possible right now.

I am tempted to pick up that unit just to try it out. It does say manufactured by Harmon but I wonder if that just means that HK made it, or if it was actually a unit that came in a car with the HK system/amplifier also. Will do some digging around for part numbers to try to find out.

I think it痴 made by Harman but is not the HK unit per se.

I can say with 100% certainty that the radio on eBay is NOT the same as the radio in my car. When it cools off outside, I'll pull my radio and post pics of the back of it, unless someone does it before me, lol.

EDIT: One of my installer friends made me cancel my order at AutoHarnessHouse. He said, and I quote "they don't have anything for the 2019 HK system! You are just going to have to trust me on this as I used them for a car like yours and their stuff didn't work for the 2019 model year."

The thought of using a ton of positaps just to swap out this POS HK radio is a little daunting.

This is the 2019 Base Radio. Then you have the 2019 non-nav radio, and finally the 2019 HK Nav unit.

Hi guys, I have a 2015 Impreza sport hatch with eyesight and recently bought a 2019 base radio off a crashed WRX

This week-end I tried swapping the head units without any rewiring.
My goal was to see if this was a simple bolt on.

First of all, all plugs from my 2015 dash harness had the equivalent socket in the 2019 radio.
2 sockets where left unplugged in the 2019 radio as I do not have these plugs.

Results:
- Radio turned on and was playing, CD was working
- USB plug was not working (I could see popup on phone going on and off)
- Backup camera was not working
- Radio would not power off when turning the car off

I've put back the 2015 radio in the car for now as I need the backup camera to go to work.

If any of you have the 2015 and 2019 radio wiring harness I'm convinced this could work by swaping around some wires.

here is a picture of the 2 radios back next to each other

I've done some research as well.

One of the extra connections on the 2019 radio is a "door open/closed" wire. I believe this is used to keep the radio on after the car is off, but before you open the door if say you get to work but want to finish listening to a show. The radio probably never detected the door opening so it just stays on. I'd bet eventually there is a timeout in the software that would do so but no clue how long.

For your second camera issue, I believe a voltage regulator is needed in between the camera connection. I can't remember which is which but I am pretty sure one generation of cameras uses 6volts while the other uses 12volts. You need to step up or down.

As far as wiring diagrams you can sign up for a paid subaru tech net subscription. I think 3-days is $30. There you can access all of the factory service manuals with complete wiring diagrams.

Good luck and keep us posted!

If my stock HK unit wasn't buggy as all get out, I wouldn't be looking to replace it. I lose USB at least twice per week, which negates Android Auto. I only noticed that I was losing USB all together due to the fact that my memory stick with MP3s also stops working when Android Auto drops. I had an update installed by the Dealership, or so they said, and that is what got me down to twice per week. Prior to that, I lost USB twice per day during my commute both to and from work.

By the way, when i removed my oem radui I noticed my car usb cable connector going into the radio was all broken down. As if it broke when they pushed the radio in on the factory. This might be the reason a lot of people are having issue with usb.

By the way, the 2019 radio has 3 usb holes but your usb cable can only fit in one as there is a small notch that is different on each usb holes. Our pre-2019 cable connector only fits in 1 of the holes.

I値l try to get the missing door open-close plug as well as the 2019 usb cable hoping this resolves some issue. I値l see if I can get the 2019 rear camera while at it.

Reach out to these guys as well. They sell camera adapters though I'm not sure if this is what you'd need or if you would need a reverse step-up adapter.

Did you try your steering wheel controls while you had the unit in there?
