Blingstrom's 05 Sti STU build and lifted 06 Fxt
Welcome to my 05 STi build thread. This has been my dream car since the days of Sport Compact Car and Subaru's great days of rally in the early 2000s. Previous to this car I had a turbocharged 99 Civic Si which was a great car until I decided I wanted something else.
Then came my 04 WRB WRX which was a great car I drove and maintained for three years. Showed my friends and family what Subaru awd was all about and yet how reliable it could also be. Then a job change gave me a chance to put some money back and finally get what I had always wanted... The 05 STi. 04 WRX: http://imgur.com/78YP9P2 1st day home 05 STi: http://imgur.com/MRKNDSM http://imgur.com/pkK0vw9 Purchased in June 2012 I found her in LIncoln, NE after searching for about 5 months trying to find a unmolested lower mileage car. She had 79k on her and what appeared to be a mostly clean and untouched under hood area. Only mod was invidia cat back. Sadly traded in the WRX that had been so good to me but instantly reminded after the test drive why I wanted the STi. Current photo. Then in January after dealing with what I thought was a caster pull from a slightly unequal caster offset I bought some whiteline alks to correct it. Since then realigned the car to 1.6 degree of camber to help with turn in..One of the best mods.
http://imgur.com/2GhnKyW Noticing a slight amount of oil from the passenger side of the head... Posssibly from swapping to synthetic. Went ahead and swapped out the old spark plugs and valve cover gaskets. Slight p/s leak as well and decided to get new orings and rebuild that. Swapped out the tranny fluid. V-limited lip installed and a foam noodle cut down to fill in the side bolster the previous owner had worn down to the iron bar.Carbon fiber wrapped the stereo surround to round out the interior touches. http://imgur.com/2ZM3Ki5 http://imgur.com/jobNkwa Shortly afterwards I noticed a slight exhaust leak at full throttle. Looking underneath the car noticed that the downpipe to exhaust gasket was basic ally missing. So waited patiently for a good deal on an invidia catted downpipe and the first weekend we moved in I installed it. Stage II here I come.. Sadly the exhaust whistle was still there as I searched frantically to find it... Only to find a large crack in the stock manifold near the O2 sensor. Made the call to get Grimmspeed ceramic coated up pipe and exhaust manifold. http://imgur.com/dlM5EQa Cracked! http://imgur.com/FmjIRDR http://imgur.com/cA46Ghu http://imgur.com/TSsb2aH http://imgur.com/hIczZfS Finally the car back on her feet.. No leaks everything running well I decided to go test her out on the highway. First third gear pull resulted in a smoked smelly clutch... Well time for a new clutch. At 89k and no idea how the previous owner had been on it... Exedy 15803 was attained and we were back to it. http://imgur.com/C1Iiqpi http://imgur.com/t8NT3Hu Next up the exterior. Just before the clutch I got a moderate cleaning kit gathered around and the car got some major attention it had been missing. Then off to PDR to remove all the previous owners dents and get her back to shape. On the plate is some help from a friend on some slight paint correction and cleaning the headlights. Looking forward to Feals 441 coilovers in the spring time and many more mods to come. Last edited by Blingstrom; 09-19-2014 at 03:39 PM. |

Nice STi man, 89k is pretty low miles for that old of a car. How are you liking the Grimmspeed exhaust parts? I'm thinking of getting their UP, DP, cross-pipe, and an Invidia cat-back this summer, basically your whole set up. Any sound clips?

Definitely a lot louder from just having the cat back exhaust. Spool seems to hit a lot harder but its hard to tell after having a cracked manifold for a few months. I am very happy with the current mid range power delivery.. can really feel the turbo come alive.
I unfortunately do not have any videos. I will see what I can do about getting a video up and some sound up. Might try to go out this weekend and if not then I will heading to the drag strip next friday. Get a few clips out there. |

I believe its the N1 system and it was on the car when I got it. Seat dyno wants to think full spool is around 2800-3000 can really feel that torque imho. Not going for any records at the strip but having pretty much everything worked on and ready to go I will hope for a low 13. Prob just slip the clutch and not go for the all out launch. |

At the drag strip:
60ft: 1.958 E/T: 13.848 @ 100.39 Missed the shift into 4th =/. 50F degrees temp. First time @ the track with this car and at the drag strip in ten years. No better runs than this. |

Some new additions from over the winter months and spring. Added kart boy shifter and bushing kit to revitalize the old tired shifter. With a new shift knob as well.
Then onto some TiC fender cowl braces. Just amazing how they transform the chassis and decrease any flexing. Installation went pretty well. Finally picked up my new suspension and enjoyed a late night installing it. Feal 441s 7k/5k. What a excellent upgrade over the stock suspension. Even passed the dreaded gf test. Mega low shots from first installing it and not having time to adjust it yet. And a shot of it adjusted and corrected. Last edited by Blingstrom; 09-19-2014 at 03:40 PM. |

Then after noticing some coolant seeping through the plastic end tanks of the radiator i decided i would upgrade before it blew out. Unfortunately my coworker wasn't so lucky and his soaked his whole engine bay.
Shot from work. One of the better days. Coworker, mine and customer's rally cross car. Obligatory random shots. Last edited by Blingstrom; 09-19-2014 at 03:41 PM. |

Replaced the old worn stock seat with a recaro sport. Feels great and holds me in extremely well. Can't wait for my next long drive.

BBS's are all ready for winter.. bring on the cold. Dipped with a black base coat and blue metalizer. Glossifier for that added touch.

Thanks. I think a little over 50 dollars. Have few cans with some leftover.
I have blizzak lm32s and had no issues with above bumper snow and non plowed streets. Smooth sailing all winter. |

Thanks a lot. I have put quite a bit of effort into and it is great to share and enjoy. Currently trying to figure out if I should do a STU build or go all out and find a different class.
It has put quite spin on things I used to think had my pathway ahead of me but now I trying to figure it all out. Was very keen on doing a motor build but now that would push into a new class where I wouldnt be very competitive. But currently just enjoying the car in autocross and will figure it out when I do. Autocross has really given me a lot more respect and enjoyment in my car and it capabilities. Everyone should go at least once. |

Some updates. New full bushings in the rear from TiC from lateral links to trailing arms and some new tranny bushings. They have really transformed the car and I cannot wait for auto-x season to get here.
11 hours of pain. Winter shot with my dipped winter wheels. |

Long 2 hours of pain here also. New Perrin v2 turbo inlet... Unfortunately took out my purge valve but it spools up like a champ.

Lastly had a few hours today to snap this on. 3 hours of measurements but it appears to be as even as could.
