I tried to reset it, but it does nothing. I still get the full sweep of the gauges on start-up, so I know it's not the gauge itself.

I'll be getting back to Green Bay on Sunday. I might up for swinging around through the fox cities on my way back to Milwaukee. But it will probably be too late. I have no idea when I'm getting back from family stuff.

Your car just needs a little rain, snow and salt. That'll fix it.

I found on All-data where the connections are, so I am going to check to make sure they are all tight and secure. I doubt the speed sensor needs to be replaced yet, but who knows. Hopefully I'll have it fixed tonight.

Yes, I am just trying to figure out which weekend works best. I'm thinking next weekend might be cool (like ten days from now), but I haven't gotten enough feedback from everyone else to let me know what works best for them...

Sorry Aaron, too busy tonight but thanks for the offer.

Ralph, definitely check the connection on the speed sensor on the transmission, if there's an intermittent bad connection it will cause what you are experiencing, since you have access to shop tools you might want to have a technician hook up an oscilloscope and back probe the sensor while you drive the car, and see if the sensor's output signal gets cut out when the gauge drops off. Let me know if you need a hand with it.

Actually got stuck at work (still here) so I couldnt go to the Comedy Club either....

Mark, thanks for the advice, that is exactly what I was going to check when I got home. I got the All-Data print-out and the location of the speed sensor and it was pretty vague, hopefully I can find it.

Its not hard to see, there's only a couple sensors on the case of the transmission, if you need a picture from the factory service manual let me know.
It'd be a lot easier if you put your car on a lift though.

On All-data they said it is on the top (you are supposed to remove the intercooler to get to it...).

Is that info incorrect?

It's probably just something wiggly. Unless the sensor decided to crap out early for no reason.

Hmmm. I thought you got the pistons and bearings already.

Double check the manual. Although doesn't All-data pull directly from there? And it looks like your front mount makes this easier .

Well I found the sensor that the diagram points to, and it is firmly seated with no loose or broken connections. Is it possible that the sensor got knocked out of whack during the clutch install or something? Can the sensor be visually inspected, or is it a 'either it works or it doesn't' type of thing?
