Sounds like your Subi will be having a good weekend. What's up with the Evo?

What do you do with both cars? Evo & STi. Do you auto X one and drag the other or auto X one and DD the other or what?

I had to google Volvo C30, pretty nice little car. Wife's?

I have no real plans this weekend, I live on the seat of my pants. Or how ever that saying goes. I'll probably get my ride wash&waxed, go for a cruise before I go out Sat night.

I might go price some 370z in Bedford and see a movie today but that's about it.

Very nice cars. I had the notion of my STi and maybe an Evo X but I didn't see the point in two awd cars.

I'll probably see both cars this summer. Doing a few more auto X events since I went to the LAST ONE of the season and got hooked on it.

I've also wanted to take my car to Mid Ohio and go around their track.

Hey guys,

I have some rust forming on my 04 wrx's rear quarter panel and it is cracking a line through the paint. I have no experience with body work but I want to get this problem resolved before it gets out of hand. Know of any reputable places that can deal with this for me?

The Volvo is very nice. My girlfriend is contemplating that or a Mini but may end up with a Subaru for AWD. Didn't know about the tire gig - sounds like fun.

Cheers.

Volvo considers the C30 a direct competitor for the mini.

I dont know about all that but.....I could rock the mini.

We didn't get the chance to test drive either the last time I was in Milwaukee but maybe we'll get a chance soon. I love the Cooper S and I doubt she'll spring for the JCW edition.

After owning five Subarus (two GD WRXs, one GC 2.5RS, one BG Legacy wagon and a SF Forester), I am currently driving a R53 MINI Cooper S.

I can tell you the good, the bad and the ugly. Fire away with questions!

Haven't done much research on them yet so pardon me for asking what R53 represents.

How does it fare in the snow? She drives a Mazda 3 now and wanted to get an AWD car but I told her some good winter tires would be fine for her applications. Hence, the options opened up to include the Mini and the above-mentioned Volvo.

Anything prone to break on them? She has little to no time to deal with bringing it into the shop except for regular maintenance (oil change, et cetera). Even then, she hardly finds the time to go. Along the same lines, are the maintenance requirements very stringent?

Does it have an oil dip-stick?

Can't think of anything else at the moment but do tell on the bad and ugly please.

Thanks.

Gerald.

R53 is the generation one Cooper S (2002-2006). My car is supercharged, current S models are turbos. I prefer the supercharged for various reasons and really only looked at 2005 and 2006 models.

I run Blizzaks in the winter and the car actually did very well. While not as invincible as my Forester on Nokians, I always felt extremely confident on my daily commute from Bay Village to Beachwood (480 sucks BTW). Ground clearance is the only thing that challenges the car in snow.

I cannot say enough great things about Classic MINI in Willoughby. I have owned a lot of cars in my life (like 30), and worked in the business for over 9 years back in the dark ages, and have never seen a better dealership experience. They treat you like gold if you are under warranty - free loaner, very liberal with warranty claims and generally bend over backwards to make you satisfied. I don't know what they will be like after my factory warranty expires, but I plan on doing my own work then anyway.

Yes, it has a dipstick! Maintenance does not look to be anything out of the ordinary, other than they do recommend synthetic oil. The filters are also cartridges, probably like her Mazda3 (my wife drives a Mazda5 BTW). Parts are not inexpensive - think along the lines of VW, BMW, Volvo. It definitely has the feel, the driving characteristics and ergonomics of a European car, rather than a Japanese car (for good or bad). It is an absolute hoot to drive. The new Cooper S (R56) is a little bit toned down from what I have, but is still a go kart.

I can get more specific if you need me to. Good forums to do research at are: www.northamericanmotoring.com and www.motoringalliance.com

Good luck!

Paul

Paul,

Cool beans. Thanks for the info thus far. One more quick question, in what way are the turbo R56s toned down with respect to the supercharged R53s? Not that it'll matter to her anyways... And YAY! on the oil dip-stick!

The R53 is a little more raw than the newer R56. The R56 is a little bigger (and definitely feels like it is), the interior is more ergonomically friendly (less quirky), the steering is not quite as nervous and the engine is a lot quieter (no supercharger whine and no exhaust popping). I personally like all of the oddball things that make the R53 more of a go kart, but for some people it is too much.

They are surprisingly comfortable cars too. I am 6'1" and am pretty big, but fit well in the car. Tons of headroom and nice heated seats. Surprisingly it is the first car that I have ever owned that I do not have to put the driver's seat all the way back in. Of course at that point, the back seat is pretty much non-existent!

You're new around here, aren't you? nabisco hasn't been about Subarus since around 2005.

It is a car forum afterall, but we'll take it to PMs if it makes everyone happier.
